Seems like a while back someone was talking about a cheaper foam gun that worked better than the expensive ones, anybody remember the brand or where to get one?

Keep in mind that I don't do bat work but I do rodent exclusions and I've used good ones and cheap ones purchased from WCS or eBay and have no issues with the economy style guns as long as you keep them clean and don't abuse the tip. I've seen some Hilti guns that look just like the Todol guns so maybe there is a common manufacturer. If you have a habit of dropping things from a ladder I would go with an economy style gun.

That's true Mike; and do you know how hard it is to climb up a tree and then jump on the roof? And those squirrels make it look so darn easy.

"do you know how hard it is to climb up a tree and then jump on the roof?" Not if you have these Paul. You need to get with the program if you're going to chase squirrels!

I've had about eight foam guns, from $20 to $100. They all drive me nuts.

I've really never used one. I use backer rod and sealants for most of those areas but have had a few jobs where I thought foam would be a time saver. Seems like it would be handy to fill hollow voids behind some repair work at the least.

If you don't want to use a foam gun maybe this would work for the few times you need it. Insects and rodents detect drafts and in turn create an entry point. I use the foam to ensure there is no air or water passage before I insert Xcluder and apply sealant.

My foam gun was one of the best investments that I've made for my businesses. A very effective and time saving tool. Just can't believe that it took me 15 years to decide to buy one !

Foam guns are an excellent investment. Unfortunately our technicians are all related to Dave Schmidt. Each one of them has eight guns and they're all clogged.

I think any foam gun will work. To cut down on issues take it inside during cold weather and buy your foam from vendors that turn over a lot of foam. It is important that the dates on the foam be current. Not saying you can't use it past the date but you will have more trouble with the gun using old foam.
The foam cleaner won't touch cured foam in the gun but it will clean melted foam. I don't feel like writing it all over again but I made post a while back about using a blow torch to melt the foam in the gun then running foam or a cleaner thru it and it will unstop the gun. Most stop ups are cured foam in the barrel.
I think Metro has the right idea about how to use it. Some people have misused foam giving it a bad name in some circles but it is useful product for many things. It was around before this industry stopping water and air leaks.

I mainly use it to bat proof homes. Along with a little Xcluder and/or hardware cloth, it makes a pretty good crack sealant. I have used it with hardware cloth and sealed a few small raccoon entrances as well. Maybe I haven't used it long enough to have a reoccurring problem. Should be expecting problems?
