Raccoon are interested in gland lures and urine designed for canines...as well as cat lures and urine.

Thanks everyone for all the great info. Good stuff. Another ? Is it worth the extra $ or work to mod for double jaw for coon ? Or will adding 1/4 rod to 1.5 coils slow them down too much ? Thanks........Jeff

Does anyone use coon urine at all? And if so how is it best utilized?

Personally I only use my double jawed traps in water because I was concerned about them coming up through the dirt also.

Why don't you use #9 wire ? Are you adding this to the top of the jaw ?

LT. I read on here where someone said to add it under the jaws welding it jaw to jaw for extra holding power and to take up space so they cant chew. Maybe thats not the way to go ??

What do you reccomend with the #9 wire ? Welding on top of the jaw ?? Gotta a bunch of that. I will be useing Bridger 1.65 RJs 2 coils & #11 DLs I just want to eliminate pull outs as much as possible. Thinkin about shock springs also. Or is that overkill ? Thanks.....Jeff

Can there be "overkill" on a 'coon trap ? grin

Unless we're talking jaw size, I don't think you go overboard with lamination or swiveling...well, within reason.

Yes, the #9 wire would go on the top of the jaw.

How would y'all set the pan tension on a #11 as a dirt trap? Is it a big deal? And does anybody elses #11's pan tension loosen sometimes when the trap goes off? I use Dukes.

LT he is talking chew guards not laminations. Yes they help keep the coon from chewing to some degree by decreasing the area under the jaw. It does not stop all chewing but does help. I use Sleepy Creek #11's for most of my land coon trapping and about half have the double jaw, wish they all did... Carry a screwdriver and pliers with you at all time when trapping. Tom

A lot of great info in this. I'm going to have to read it again just to take it all in. One thing I'm thinking about is bait stations. No one mentioned them in this post unless I missed it. I have 2 properties in mind for next season. Both have neighboring properties with corn, once the corn is cut the coon can be anywhere in the creeks or swamps. I'm thinking about trying a little prebaiting with a PVC gravity feeder to train the coons to go into a box with a 7" x 7" opening (My States requirement for man made cubbys).

Has anyone ever tried something like this or am I just going crazy in the off season?

I'm planning on some bait station trailers. The plan is to build a box that is 5 ft x 6 ft and put 3 holes on the 6 ft sides and 2 on the 5 ft sides. Going to bait these boxes with fresh fish. I'm gonna put them in place a couple weeks ahead of time for opening day but will also move them randomly throughout the season.

Trailer? As in on wheels? thats a great idea. I have one spot I may try something like that but use a sled to drag it. Great Idea!
