Besides the obvious of ladders, traps, and bait, what is on the list of items in the truck you just don't want to do without?

A good light in one hand and a mirror in the other. ( And not just to see if your cap's on straight in the dark )

Gloves, respirator, coveralls, cage seperaters, plenty of ink pens (I'm not sure where they go!)

A very good hand held flashlite, spotlite on the ready,spare batteries, portable elastic headlamp, mirrors, respirator, goggles,hard hat and coveralls are some real basics that we use daily on just about all new jobs/inspections.

Roll of wire and hercules putty.A variety of hand tools a battery drill and spare "charged" batteries, screws and washer assortment, pieces of good mesh wire for repairs or quick patches.I use my leatherman tool daily in control and fur trapping.

Hand net, leather gloves, bite resistant gloves, holding cage/transfer cage,excluders,snare pole,snake/cat grasper tongs and duct tape. Three cage traps of an internal stackable size.Various size glue boards,telescopic extension pole with some home made screw on fittings for needed situations.

There are more but just a rough thought of what we carry on our vehicles at all times as staple items.

Bob, regarding the cat/snake tongs, which ones tend to see the most use?

A flashlight on your person at all times and not one of those wimpy minimags either. A quaility zenon or led "tactical" type. My personal preference is the streamlight strion C4 led rechargeable. Rechargeables are highly recommended with the charger in the truck. Also keep a backup on your person, it doesn't have to be much but enough to get you out of an attic or crawlspace. I use a flashlight app on my phone. A backup needs to be in the truck as well.
A multi tool always comes in handy, I prefer gerber though any quality brand will suffice.
It should go without saying but a folding knife of some quality type. Leave the bowies and tactical fighters at home.
Leather gloves should be on your person whenever you are out of the truck and on your hands when working, though I must admit I prefer to work barehanded.
A good set of rechargeable tools (drill, reciprocating saw, light, circular saw, etc). I've gotten great service out of the ryobi tools. Keep plenty of batteries on hand and charged.
Basic hand tools. Hammer, pry bars, screwdrivers, nut drivers and rachet and socket sets. I can not speak highly enough of small pry bars known as hive tools to us beeks for gently lifting molding and casings.
Caulk gun and caulk. Buy a good dripless gun it's worth it.
Fogger and deodorizer.
Construction sized heavy duty trash bags.
Tarp.
Drop cloths.
Shoe covers.
Screws, coated deck 1 5/8 are my go to but you need an assortment such as pan head and self tappers or sheet metal. Don't forget long wood/deck screws.
Drill bit sets to include concrete bits (be sure your drill has a hammer drill setting).
Tapcons and concrete anchors.
Various sized nails to include roofing.
An assortment of small to large washers.
Wire of various guages. Hanging bairs, light wire, to snare setting, heavy guage.
Quality 1/4" hardware cloth, better bought as 48"x100' rolls.
Cobra ridge vent material.
A roll of galvanized flashing.
Quality metal shears.
Various pliers and vice grips.
Hand metal brakes.
Aluminum coil stock.
Various lengths and thicknesses of wood to include both 2x and 1x stock.
Roof jacks.
Ladders stabilizers/leg extenders.
Rope.
A tool belt or pouches and hooks. I like the monster hook for hanging my drill from my belt.
Tape measures.
A framing square, if you know how to use one.
Two and four foot levels, can double as a straightedge.
Coveralls
Full face respirator with full hepa filtration.
Half mask respirator with an assortment of filters (organic vapor, particulte, etc) not to be used in place of full face when required.
Helmet/hard hat.
Steel toe shoes for those industrial jobs that require them.
Safety glasses.
Hearing protection.
Duct tape.
3mil plastic sheeting by the roll.
Totes and containers to sort and store all this.
Snake hook at the minimum, tongs for those that can't tail a snake.
A pillow case or snake bag, have extras.
Various five gallon buckets, the screw on lids are great. Have some with screening or perforated lids to hold live animals.
Various nets from landing net size to small fish size. My main net is a small extendable "koi pond" type with fine mesh and a small hoop.
Catch pole, I like my tomahawk extendable model.
Extension pole.
Shop vac, hepa filtered if possible.
Mirrors of various types.
Shovel
Garden hoe
Hand trowel
Spray paints in various colors to match the trims in your area.

I'm sure I'm forgetting something but this'll get you started.

Warrior, what do you drive a U-Haul truck? There is no way I could get all of that in my truck at one time. I guess that is why you run with a camper cover.

But that full sized van is starting to get pretty full.

A medium Size Tackle box to hole the assorted hardware, screws, washers, extra trap tags, rings, clips, light tie wire, cable cutters, pliers, Each trip you will find something you might want to add to that box.

A good strong magnet.

A Tote with a full set of Extra Clothes.

Wet Wipes. shop rags

The snake tongs get the most use but we still have used the cat graspers many times. We have long and standard length snake tongs.Both come in handy.

Okay, Scott, what's the extra change of clothes for? Skunk job gone bad, crawled underdeck after dead opossum, fell in lake, river, sewer, garbage can, it was Sunday and I had my good clothes along, or all of the above?

Paul, all of the above for me except skunk gone bad.

If you use a truck with a cap, one of the best things we have put in our trucks is called a Ladder Jet.

It allows you to keep a step ladder in your cap, mounted to the ceiling, and access it without climbing in or putting the tailgate down.

Keeps it up out of the way and clean!!!
