I just worked up a small order with WCS. 4 cans of Todol Foam, a trap pan adjuster, a dvd and a pound of cage clips. Price was $114. Shipping cost was 40 outrageous dollars. I declined to hit the submit order button and will look for the stuff elsewhere.

Put together a similar order from Discount Wildlife Supplies and shipping was $18.33. I hit the submit order button this time. I just don't get it. Yes they are good people, yes they have good service, yes they have good products but mercy they need to do something about their shipping cost.

I agree 100% but I noticed something this week.

I was gonna sell a dozen colony traps to a guy but shipping was $25 for 6 according to USPS website but he could buy them at FnT Post and they were only charging $18. I ended up telling him to just buy them from them since he would save some money. I am going to find out this week if they have discounts or something for business' who ship a lot because I don't know why they got a cheaper rate than me unless they are just eating the difference.

I don't know if WCS is charging extra for shipping to make sure they don't get shorted or what but I bought $10 in product and paid $12 in shipping one time.

Part of the cost is figured by the distance traveled, plus the weight. Unless they just flat rate by $ amount.

The web site seems to give higher prices then if you call WCS in person. If you have a problem with Alan's shipping prices please call them they do their best to put this into that and save you on shipping.

Thing is this entire order could be packed in a box that you could easily carry under one arm and I guarantee I could ship it to them for less than $20, probably $15. Still blows my mind that you can order a vent cover from them that costs right at $100 and shipping is $50 or at least it was a year ago. Might be $75 now! Once I ordered 3 of them and they came nested together in the same box they ship one and they charged $150 shipping. I did call and get that reduced. I readily admit that their shipping turn around time is excellent but for the most part if I needed it tomorrow I would have ordered it a week ago.

I recently wanted to buy a $125 Safeguard but he wanted $50 to ship it. I ended up getting the same sized trap from FnT and the shipping was $10.

I think Robb is right in that we really should be talking to Alan about this. He is losing a lot of business.

I appreciate everyone's feedback on this forum. One thing is for certain, we can't fix, what we don't know about ! So for that thank you ! I will get with our software folks and see what we need to change. WCS has not been in business since 1998 supplying this industry with some of the latest and most innovative products, while gouging or overcharging for shipping. I'm not going to go into all the details, but suffice it to say shipping in today's world is a complex subject, and every carrier is different. Especially with our vast array of product sizes, shapes, and weights that we carry. I don't believe there has been an instance where we've been made aware of a shipping cost problem and haven't worked to correct it.

Barehunter what is your zip code, I'll have our software people use this as a test for how shipping was calculated.

Again, thanks for the feedback..................don't hesitate to ever contact me directly if you have any issues with our service, products, or shipping.

Glad Alan came on to explain.

I know I never question the shipping charges. I just assume that is what they are charging. At least he brought up the point that their could be a glitch somewhere.

I guess it might be better to call in orders if you have a chance at a better shipping rate. But their is nothing like the convienance of ordering online.

Ok...so I got an email from WCS stating that the shipping for my order SHOULD have been $17.85! Yep! I agree! That is just about exactly what I paid when I ordered from Discount Wildlife Supply. Just like I said...I bet I could ship it to them for less than $20. They did offer me $25 off my next purchase.

Let me reiterate, I am not on a personal vendetta to slam them. I have met Alan and his wife. They are a help to the industry. They carry good products, stand behind what they sell, offer speedy shipping etc etc. Only problem I find is the shipping issue. I went thru this with them a year ago and got the same story.....software glitch. Some day in a few weeks I'll enter the same order online and see what shipping cost pops up. That will tell the tale.

hmmm...

So the item prices are the same as other companies, but you have to inquire about not getting mispriced for shipping? When, as far as I know, other companies have not had problems with shipping charges.

Doesn't make sense.

We have problems with paypal orders several times a year. We correct them when we find them. Most of the time, it just won,t let the customer order.

They just pop up or happen. It is always best to speak to a person, if that is possible on both ends.

Badger, I guess I should have. I've always worked on the basis that I speak louder by my actions than my words and it's been a while since I've ordered from WCS because of the shipping charges.

On Tuesday, after the holiday, I'll call Alan and find out why I can get the same trap sent from Wisconsin for one quarter the price. I live two hours away from WCS and 900 miles from Wisconsin.

I switched to buying Contract blox from WCS to Pest Strong. They are a couple dollars cheaper per 18lb pail plus the shipping is free. I still buy a fair amount of other things from WCS but the shipping can be a shock. Somethimes I have put the order in and they have adjusted it later.

Well said Rick. My sentiments exactly. In a couple of weeks I will be posting the results of my attempt to place the same order to see if the shipping costs change.

UPDATE: Today I typed my same order in again and this time shipping came up as $15.86! Thanks to Alan and company for quickly dealing with this matter. Hopefully shipping will remain reasonable in the future. This should be good for WCS and the rest of us as well. Later tonight I'm gonna work up another order and will decline to use the $25 discount.

Oh my... I went to place an order tonight and the same stuff that was $40 shipping which I was told via email that should have been $17.85 had become $15.86 online this afternoon is now $29.53. I think I will hold off a while. This is like playing the stock market!

I think we all fall into this trap nowadays(myself included). In the age of texting, internet ordering and instant gratification.people find it easier to not talk to anyone.Even with all this great technology there are always going to be glitches. It is always better to talk to someone in person to get things resolved!

Go to any store website and read the reviews and they will be half saying how great the product is and the other half saying how crappy it is.

I am almost positive that none of the negative reviewers called the company to complain, they just took it to the masses. That is what we do in this society.

If we eat at a restaurant and it wasn't a good experience we don't complain to the owner we just tell all our friends don't go there.

Every single one of us has done this at one point or another so for anyone to bash the original poster is silly.

We all like Alan and at one point or another we have all ordered from him. Every time I have ordered through the website I thought the shipping was high but I never even considered it was a glitch, I just assumed that is what he was charging.

He came on here and said give him some time to fix the issue and I will happily do that. He mentioned that we are all more than welcome to call the store and place a phone order to get accurate shipping. I know how much of a pain figuring out shipping can be and none of the carriers make it easy.

Gentlemen,

I have ordered from WCS for years. If you order online, the software calculates each individual item as a separate order and calculates shipping based on that (I think). I have never been charged the itemized shipping unless I only ordered one item.

I believe they must have had a malfunction or simply overlooked adjusting your shipping to reflect the actual cost of sending your items out. If you do not trust the system to get it right, place your order by phone. As most of you know I am technologically challenged, I have ordered a couple times online, but I usually browse online and call to place my order. I have never had to wait or got a busy signal either.

I would have to say that WCS has good products, good people, and good service and will not hesitate to keep sending my business to them if they have what I want at the price I am willing to pay.

Same here, it's always been obvious to me the the website has some sort of automated calculator doesn't take into account what will fit in a box.

Alan Huot's company has been first rate for us and we spend more money there each year. And I'm not just saying this because I want something in return. ( But I probably wouldn't turn anything down, either )

I have ordered from Alan and Carol for many years, and my experience has been that the shipping costs that shows up when I place the order online are almost always reduced when the actual order is charged on my card.
As someone previously posted, their software calculates the shipping cost per item but if WCS can nest items inside other items the shipping costs are reduced, which is reflected in the final total to me.
That's just my .02 but their customer service has always been exceptional.

What I like about this thread is I can shut my eyes and see Alan's face reading this. He does well by selling good products at good prices and I'm sure the shipping is calculated by a computer and the money went to the shipper and he never noticed it. He will fix it now that he is on to it and he will probably give us all something free for helping him find this glitch;-)

You will not find a better group than Allan and Carrol have at WCS, they do a fantastic job and I always recomend them to anyone who asks. When it comes to all this computer ordering BS and then complaining about it on here, there is simply no need. A simple telephone call can solve most any problem. In this world of email and texting and what not everyone has forgot how to actually talk to people. In a customer service type of buisness like this everyone should keep this in mind. Its convienent to use technology but people want a person to talk to, by solving your own problems in person it will help you in your buisness. Call it practice, im not saying I have all the answers but give it a try. I would rather drive to someones house and talk in person, second is a phone call and lastly text and email but only in a pinch.

it is not a stupid question if you do not know the answer

I just ordered 10 safeguard squirrel traps and The prices were very competitive with the other vendors. I am appreciative of this thread for addressing a concern I've had for a long time. I don't think anyone was bashing anyone. Someone voiced a concern and it was addressed appropriately. Thanks WCS for your great service and dedication to your customers!

I'll have to echo the others on the positive end. While for balancing books we'd prefer to see accurate shipping immediately on the
online order, these folks have done great things in getting us our orders in a timely fashion and carrying all the things we need.
Whenever I've been in a bind on needing something I should've ordered 2 weeks ago for a job tomorrow they have helped me out when
I've called to ask for it.

Having recently dealt with shipping calculators and plug-ins for websites I can tell you they aren't all as simple as folks think. Just to ship
a few small items with our non profit website we had to do a ton of work with a programmer to get it to work properly for all types of shipping
options.

As was stated, folks don't make money on shipping, so the only people profiting were those being paid to ship (usps, fedex, ups, etc...).

I would also add as was stated these folks strive to nest things into the least amount of boxes possible to save you on adding more boxes with
linear feet that will cost you to ship more!

While everyone loves fast shipping and here in NM I wish Alan's folks had an office or warehouse in CO, AZ, UT, NM or TX, I have no complaints
about their customer service, so lets all hope that after this thread has been closed, the shipping issues are understood and behind the company.

Kudos to Alan for coming on the thread and stating they are addressing it as fast as possible.

Justin

Alan, just a heads up that the shipping calculator wasn't working when I tried to place an order today. Also, I emailed a question some time ago that remains unanswered. What is the closing range of the Ringer tool & c-rings? I found similar tools (different color)that state 3/16" closed. Looking for a snug fit with 1/2" x 1" wire to get away from j-clips. Thanks -

I placed an order around $90 recently and was offered 3 different shipping options. Standard shipping was like $14....very reasonable and comparable to other companies. There was also two expedited shipping methods offered. I don't remember the price but they were in line as well for 2nd day or whatever. I was most impressed and pleased to see it. I received the order in 3 or 4 days. Very impressive. Many thanks to Alan for addressing this issue. I will be ordering again...and again and will encourage others to do the same. Don't know what is up with what MetroFS posted but probably just a glitch that will get straightened out.

Barehunter - No issues with Alan or WCS, just a heads up in case others encountered the same problem. I was ready to order another item from another company as well and ground shipping came up as $20.50 for a 1.5 lb item! I understand the costs and logistics of shipping and the higher costs are showing up everywhere. Needs, availability, distance and shipping time affects whether I order from WCS or from somewhere closer. Kudos to Alan for offering the products that he does.

cost are terrible from every where. I sent baits and lures to Montana and to GA the cost was almost the same. I just received a 8 oz jar of glands and that was 10 bucks. shipping is high. I know there was time I sent orders and estimated the cost and was way off so it would seem to the customer I was good and others was not. I don't do that any more LOL

After seeing this post, I looked back at my order from WCS last year. On my web order, it stated that shipping was $69.87. But on paid invoice emailed back from them, shipping was only $41.38.

So I guess they caught it before it went through.
