I am wondering what it takes to become an ADC trapper in the state of Pa? I am always racking my brain for ideas for things to do to employ myself and this one came up so I thought I would ask about it on here and get info from the experts.
Thanks
Shaun

Go to your regional PGC headquartes and speak with them. They will give you information on the testing requirement along with dates and locations of test site.

Also would it be costly to get into this as a profession?

Grow as you go.You will need equipment to service different aspects of the business. As your knowledge grows and your services you will be continually be reinvesting $$ to meet your needs if you make it for a period. If you dont have good work ethic,or have some business skills I would choose another profession.

I feel I have a good work ethic, and I do possess enough business skills. I do know I would need equipment and to reinvest as I go. Its an idea, I do really want to be self employed just havent found something I want to do. I do love animals and the outdoors and have a decent amount of experience, but I am sure there are many aspects of this job that I do not know. Maybe I will get to talk to some people at the Maryland convention coming up to get a better idea

82,
A lot of our work is light to moderate repair work. Understanding and catching animals is merely the beginning of what we do.

Many folks who like, or enjoy working with animals will contact me looking for employment but do not understand that much of our day is spent in a crawlspace, on a ladder, or on a roof performing inspections.

That being said, I wish you luck in the field as there's always room with someone with a strong work ethic and a lot of patience!

Just so you know, I invested around $1500.00 in equipment when I started 13 years ago, not counting yellow pages, print ads, internet ads and a p/u truck. I'm sure others have started up with less but that was my personal plan.

By the way, I used to live in Lebanon and my Mom worked at Hershey Foods for many years. I enjoyed riding with my Dad to pick up Mom from work and smelling the chocolate that engulfed that town. Good luck!

Thats really cool its a small world. Yes it does smell like chocolate here but some days when they roast peanuts it smells rather bad.

You may want to attend the northeast wildlife management seminar. It would be a good opertunity to interact with some pros
There are several people from PA that attend.
The seminar is about two hours north. On the NY border.
