Did you guys and gals get a package of trapping reports from ADF&G this week? Very nice publications, but it made me scratch my head as to why they would spend what had to be a small fortune to print and mail them, rather than just putting them on the web. I reviewed them and then put them in the read magazines stack never to be opened again most likely. I would rather they spent the money on research or habitat enhancement.

Yep, got a package as well akpawpincher. I was a bit supprised as well, but I like reading them. I really get a kick out of reading all the comments that they get on the trapping survey's. They print them word for word it would appear.

Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything, but they bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs.

I have asked that money question for years. Some at the upper levels of ATA think it's a waste also.

I agree that it is a waste, but the comments section is priceless. Must be fun retyping some of that into the report. I'd have a hard time not correcting some of that spelling....

They should take the questionaires online then they could just print them out instead of having to type it all up. I'm sure they could even use a program that took your answers to all the questions and just created the charts automatically. Maybe they should hire FT, he'd have er done in no time....and we wouldnt have to wait 4 years to read them.... smile

Those of you suggesting that ADFG put the stuff "online" should remember that once on the website, they will be available to everyone in the world, including the AR types and groups whose favorite hobby is taking the department to court.

Would you want ALL of those comments delivered up and readily available to those folks?

If they want the printed version I'm pretty sure all they would have to do is ask. The other question that I have is how useful is the data when only about a third of all trappers in the state even bothered to respond to the surveys. At best they are a skewed sample.

they are simple to clean bonelessly ...... just have to be shown where or how to cut em.

yout tube it.. there are several ways..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3-GLr9bTXM

the BIG ones(over 36") the best cut is the back loins. put fish on its belly, then cut down behind the head, to the backbone, and then fillet the "top" off to the tail...

Yeah, fried pike is soooooo good! Haven't had it dried! I like half dried whitefish and full dried whitefish also. Half dried for a couple of days and then fried is soooo good also!

Most everyone here has a bunch of pike hanging on the outside of there porch drying this time of year,..they fillet them good with no bones at all, usualy the smaller ones, they dry faster,no smoke or anything, they have a natural salty taste, kind of taste like dried squid. smile
