The fellow said in the biginning chipmonk, I think you are going to find that is mostly flyers. also mentioned bats the key here is when are the customers hearing the noise.

There's bats and pine squirrel forsure , but them piles are differnt then what I've seen before . I don't get many flyers jobs , so I'm not sure , but sounds like you have seen that before , there's a heavy urine smell and smelled like bat urine but I'm thinking now it's flyers , I do see chipmunk piles but nothing that big . That's me in the attic scratching my head , kinda cool to see something differnt , to the north of me there's lots of flyer work , thanks Jonesie

Do you guys out there catch many chipmunks in attics? I can't remember any though we do get them on roofs and in rain gutters.

Are there pine forest around your area ,around here it's all big oak trees mostly if there's pines it's because someone planted them , is that why I don't see more flyers . Do they store nuts and pine cones in the house like other squirrels do , does there urine smell like bat urine ?

Interesting that you should ask that question, Pesky. I know that red squirrels need mature evergreens but now that you mention it, most of our flyer jobs have mature evergreens also. And you're also right about the planting.

In my area what you are seeing, is flyers. we do not get the chipmunks in any great numbers in the attics, not to say they will not go in there and I have caught them in the attic, when I have chipys in the attic the noise is manly going to be the same as grey. on the chips though they seem to go in and out of the walls and chase ways more than the greys. so my customers tell me day break and at dark with running in the walls, and there every day, alot of nose in the day also. my flyers are going to be at night, party time for a few nights then no or little noise for a few nights then party time again. and bad weather nights party time.

Well will see in the mourning I have some excluder traps set on two holes . I don't think there chipmunks and convinced there flyers . The noise there hearing is at night but there's a colony of big brown bats in there to so that could be what there hearing , if there flyers will there only be one female with her young or will she have them around the other flyers . Do they live in colony's , by the looks of them droppings there's a bunch , the droppings looked fresh and the urine around the droppings looked wet and fresh . I just hope they don't avoid the traps and start using the bat entry points , then I would have to go with baited sets , the customers haven't decided to do the exclusion yet because I told them they should get the new roof before I do it . They planed to do the roof next year so now they don't know what to do , seems simple to me because they have the money so get the roof and go with medal ridge vent ,then have me do the exclusion problem solved

Ended up catching flyers , my youngest boy is learning taxidermy on this Owen right now so he asked to mount one ,so I said ok but let's make sure that's legal first , so I go to the DNR web site and look up flyers and we have two differnt kinds in this state and there protected , there doing research on them right now because the northern flyer is slowly on the decline . Well in the southern part of the state the southern flyer is moving into areas that has never ever had flyers before , so that's good for us guys in the southern part of the state , and let's hope the northern flyer makes a come back . This could be a great money maker for us seeing there very noisy and there urine smell like extra strong bat urine , it is strong , not sure if it's legal for us to trap them but if I had to doit over again I would one way door them any way . We should do every thing we can to help these little guys population grow . Wonder if they would get Rabbbies from the bats there living with ? And the walleye are on the bite

So you did the job without knowing if it is legal or not and post it on a public forum?

Good one RF! I don't know exactly how it works either. Been trapping flyers and woodchucks forever and so has everyone else. Both are protected in Wisconsin. I have never heard of anyone getting pinched either. Just one of those mysteries of life I guess.

Okay, I know I'm going to regret this but why can't you catch, shoot, step on, strangle, voles in Michigan.
