If possible leave the calf where it lays. Back off the carcass and set the trails and access points that the yotes used to get to it.

Yes, but is just as likely to to bring in any yote in the area. By setting the carcass immediately you have a higher probability of getting the guilty party. Target the specific trouble maker when it comes to stock killers as the first option and then general predator control if needed.
I wouldn't call in the immediate area of the kill until I gave my sets a chance to work to keep from alerting the culprit I was on to him.

Just set up same scenario two days ago! I cought two coyotes one by the dead calf about 20 yards away! Cought the other one next to the afterbirth from calves born two days earlier! Set at least 2 traps wherever one was born they visit that spot regularly after calf is born!

Might be to late, but I've found it's a good idea to stake the carcass down. Nothing worse than going to the trouble of making sets near a carcass, and having coyotes drag the carcass further and further away each night. You don't always get them the first night, but they will come back to it, even if they don't eat anything.

If you have a dog, take him for a walk and watch everything he does. Where his feet go when he is sniffing a pole or stump. ( Helps if the dog is the same size as a coyote) Use the right snares and traps, and all you need is the right equipment and a little practice. Since you just lost a calf the last element is taken care of. Now you have an axe to grind with coyotes, and I apreciate that. Good luck, and feel free to PM if you need any pointers.

Warrior has it right with the snares . I would stay back from the calf some . Stick to there trails . Anybody can catch a coyote with a snare just hang a bunch out .

you can also call most likly if the yote that killed the calf is still there it will be near at dark call a good 30 mins before dark.If it is a female on a den that yote will show up. If you call a few hours later who knows what yote comes in.

Thanks for the update! Makes me feel good to help crush a coyote takeover from 1500 miles away.
