When I put the finishing touches on my "TRAPPING SHACK", I'll post pictures! We got it all enclosed, then the lack of funds "ended" the project. I didn't put the doors on, but it is going to be awesome. Gotta get the wiring in the walls, then insulate, then finish the inside. It will have a blaze king and a monitor stove in it. It will be done before snow flies next season! smile

I should hire a pro skinner too....

Careful there Kusko you may unknowingly be building yourself a dog house. Mine keeps telling me to move a bed or a couch out to mine so she has a place to send me laugh Fortunately for me there isn't enough room for either of those items when the snogo is in it so I think I made it the perfect size smile

I often think of how nice it would be to load my snogo inside the garage and then drive out, hook up to the sled and go.

While I'm at it, I should get the loan big enough for our 'line cabin too.....

Thats right I am a food photorapher..lol

the "mushroom looking thing" is crunchy white goodness from right above the stomach not sure what its called but attached to the throat and sometimes is braided and cooked attached the head I didnt have room in the pot for the head frown

the brown glob on the right is liver makes a great spread on a cracker. kind of like a Patte

and the fish has the green skin is very good has a buttery flavor kind of like black Cod.

they must have them in the lakes around Anchorage catch one and try it you will be suprised.

Those things scare me. I kick back in. I am afraid if I leave em out of the water too long they will walk off.

I haven't eaten one. And probably won't unless I am starving.
It seems the uglier the fish the better they taste. Ever see a monk fish? They are good but they ate hideous.

I was afraid that throat thing is what that was.
If you pay the shipping I will send you all the "good" parts from the reds I sooner this summer

Pyloric caeca. About the nastiest part of the guts IMO. No disrespect YJ. The skin, liver, no problem. Grew up spearing them in winter and called them "lawyers". Was told it's because the [Please excuse my language... I'm an idiot]h0l is so close to the heart. Very nice white meat otherwise.

The old burbot is known by many names lawyer is common around here.A couple of years ago while fishing a bay of lake superior there was a group of older guys sitting in a circle fishing smelt from my shack I could here them talking about the shupac they caught so I had to go look ,sure enough a burbot.Alot of people throw them on the ice around here and that a cryin shame. It took awhile for me to finnally take one home and try it.They all come home now there great.I dont eat the guts tho, maybe some day.
I caught lots thew the ice on chelatna lake in alaska.I had 5 tip ups and would put a dead herring on the bottom after dark and usually by the time I checked the last one the first one would be hooked up again.Amazing that threw three feet of snow and ice 50 feet of water and in the dark they still found the bait.

Also called the poor mans lobster. Boil up chunks of flesh and then dip in butter.

My dream has been to get outta the salmon guiding business. What a zoo! I always dream of being a Burbot guide. Put some lawn chairs up on the river bank. Cut some forked sticks for the fishing rods. Chuck some bait out on the river bottom. Build a little camp fire. Sit around in the lawn chairs drinking beer all day and occasionally pulling in a tasty burbot.

Peaceful, Relaxing, and some mighty fine eating fish! Well maybe someday?
