i Took apart my SleepyCreek #4 4 coil sand blasted it and put on a baked on teflon moly paint that is used as a tough durable gun finish that makes Metal extremely waterproof and makes it a Dull OD Green color. They also have Earth Brown Color that i think i might try but i had alittle left from doing a gun for somebody tell me what you think of it.

Im hoping that the finish will last fouir or five years but only time will tell. The paint actually bakes into the pours making a lubricant also gun manufactures like Wilson Combat are puting the finish on there guns. I hope it works and lasts as long as i want it to.

I dont know cost because ther was a little left in a can from a customers gun i refinished. i will probably order a can of earth brown and see how many traps i can do with it then i will let you know cost per trap. As far as the procedure you just sand blast the part and the wipe down with acetone to degrease and then spray the part and let it dry for 15 minutes and then bake it in oven at 300 degrees for 30 minutes. You may be able to get awy with soaking trap in vinegar until bare metal is showing instead of sandblasting but i have acces to a sandnblaster. im leaving for about two hours if you have any more questions ill answer whwn i get back

Duck Killer, is that Lauer Duracoat? As I understand it that's fairly expensive. I hear it's good to go on guns but that's just on static surfaces not the moving parts, so I'll also be interested to see how it holds up.

I'd like to it after just on big coon on dry land. They put any finish to the test. If it holds up to that then you really got something there. It sure looks nice now.

I would be interested in seeing what it looks like after it does battle with a coon that gets in the beaver trap. And wether or not a coyote would dig it out of the ground. Run some more tests there KY and keep us posted on it.....LOL. Like you dont have enought to do already...

Its called Brownells Teflon Molly, Oven Cure Gun Finish i get it out of Brownells Gun Supply catolog i get a preety good discount on much of the stuff because im a gunsmith. and its made for moving parts like gun slides. You right i dont know how it will hold up well have to wate till november to see. Its held up preety good on my old 870 and i put it through alot but im sure not as much as a coon will lol i cant hurt to try though besides this trap was on the guy whos Ruger M77 i did. If it does hold up there are alot of differant colors you can order it in so you could match whatever terain you need. Ill give an update once i get to use it. i to was wandering if a coyote could smell it i might try it on a couple of #2 bridgers and see if i have any problems worst case senario i have to sandblast the finish off and dye and wax it. thanks for the input i hope it works as good as it looks.
