Ever use blood as bait ? A buddy of mine owns a butchershop and has offered a little blood if we want it.

Whenever I have a live rat' in the trap, I tap him on the head and let the blood trickle all on the bank. Good call for mink. I'd definitely try it.

Used a trail of chicken blood to take a nice mink once. Don't know why I have not used it again. Oh yea, don't have chickens now. Tom

I was going to say what Asa said. The blood that is left in the container after purchasing chicken livers should be good for weasel. A pint of livers leaves a lot of blood in the container.

When I trap rats in the fall I put the skinned carcasses in plastic ice cream containers I saved in summer. I can tightly cram about 5 rat carcasses in one container. Then I freeze until I can cut the carcasses up for weasel bait. Anyway, lots of muskrat blood pools at the bottom as the critters thaw. I pour it off into plastic containers (sqeeze bottles) and mix with a 1 to 6 mixture of glycerine and keep refrigerated until I use them to freshen up bait in the weasel boxes.
and of course I also smear Asa's weasel lure on the outside of the entrance hole.

Lab, better grab you a pail and start runnin' to your buddy's then... Back in the late 70's and early 80's , I would go to a slaughter house and get cattle blood by the 5 gallon pail full. I would use it to pre-bait with down a dirtole and when I would come back it would look as if an M-80 went off down in that hole! I would also pour some on a rock or on the ground and put a rock on top...sure got a lot of reaction from the foxes...(we didn't have coyotes here at the time). I took more foxes than anyone in my county for over a decade....that was just one of my secrets!

Okay, blood will be on the line this yr. We thought it would be the perfect lure, maybe we'll give it a test run with the trail cam on it. Let you know how it does.

I also had a buddy that had a Slaughter house,. and I always had fresh blood when I needed it, and when I would kill a deer I always had a container to get the blood that would always be in the belly cavity, and just use it in the dirt hole. works good on mostly everything. I would even soak a sponge and use the sponge in the dirt hole. But these Western Critters are lots different than The Eastern Ones. Yancy

Yeah, but they still eat meat!....... maybe it's the dry climate.

I use to use Muskrat blood in a squirt bottle for mink and it worked good.

I always liked the "jelled" stuff but the liquid always soaks in better!
