Gary, since you're in Indiana, come over to Ohio. I still run several hundred snares a winter, even with my full time nuisance work.

ADC, The snares in your drawing are RED.
Do RED snares catch more beaver ?

In the drawing that you have a steep bank.. The place where I can trap/snare beaver. The bank dosent have that kind of slop. Can I still set it?

What size cable are your snares built out of ? 1/8" or 3/16"

Make the snare shorter put it on a drowner wire and your set will not get so torn up.

snared this one crossing out ofthe creek and going into a pond to cut cattails. Snared 3 that night. Used about 4 foot extension to big tree. Had to drive beaver stick in the ground to hand my snare support from.

boys, there ain't no way salt can be bad for ya... if your eating it on buttered sweet corn...NO WAY

Why do you think I been on you to make RED F1? Of course red snares, for beaver, blue buckets for coon and mink... You knew that.

If your ground don't have that slpoe you need to bring in a backhoe and build it up, then yes you can set it.

That is 3/32 cable for the snare but I use 1/4" cable to attach it to the stake.

I thought you already knew something about snaring.

You must not know who your dealing with here. ADC does not get his feet wet, all he does is wear tennis shoes when he traps.

Cause I couldn't find any 1/2" cable and since Newt was razzing me about useing rope sized cable for snares... lol

Honestly though I anchor threw a 9ga. end swivel on a 24" piece of 1/2" rebar with a chunk of #9 wire pigtailed on it to support it. Newt don't like that either, but what does he know. LMAO

When do you opt for a dry-land set instead of a water set? In PA we are limited to water sets with snares, so I would be setting at the water's edge. If the bank is steep, do you set back from the bank to make the catch on the swim into the trail or up tight for the trip down the trail? Both?

Also, I have seen different descriptions of the water based snare being one third above the water 2/3 below and 2/3 above one third below. What is the concensious?

i do the 2/3 below 1/3 above or even more so at times 50/50 ... for my methods it might be any number of variables that may dictate how/why i do what i do lol

but i'm as unconventional as they come ;\)

NOW you'v done it!!!!! The CATS out of the bag.RED snares work better on beaver and BLUE buckets for mink.
I just stocked up on 3/16" cable and #2 wire. Went to the junk yard and bought a truck load of diomond plat truck bumpers for drags. Then another load of v8 engin blocks for drown'n weights.
I hope to have them all out at my set locations,by the end of summer.
