I think these are oyster mushrooms can someone help me out. They were growing on a maple tree and are approximately 6 to 8 inches across.

Yes, they are oyster mushrooms. Yum! Enjoy!

Tip: Don't rip them off the tree, cut them off with a sharp knife. That way you will cause less disturbance to the roots (mycelia, actually) of the mushrooms, ensuring a good crop again next year.

oysters often fruit several times a year here, they may again yet this one if you do as he says, cut them off
