I am going to steal this question from LT Grey (great idea you had for coons, LT), but change the target animal.

What is your favorite skunk lure, not just brand but flavor also, for catching skunks at this time of year?

RAT, Use whatever you see fit from my post anytime! We all are an extended family here on the ADC frorum, for the most part, so we try to help each other out. I have used both Bob Jameson's and Carroll Black's ( Blackie's Blend) skunk lures with good success. I haven't tried On Target's skunk lures but I hear talk they are pretty good. I make a good number of baits and lures so I am always trying new stuff out. Wolf River has a new bait he's working on that seems promising. Grubenator, I think it's called.

Wolf River's Grubinator. ;\)
I've used both Bob Jameson's and Carroll Black's skunk lures with much success. All with marshmallows for eye appeal and often with a trailing scent.

Pardon my ignorance, but can you explain this to me?

While I can't answer for Bob, an easy and cheap bait hanger can be made from a piece of 14 gauge wire wrapped tightly around a pair of needle nosed pliers, that forms a cone shape. This is completed by forming the last few inches into a hook shape to hang in the back of a cage trap. This takes a pretty thick bait to stay in....or as I like to do, first stuff it with marshmallows and add the lure or bait on top. \:\)

This allows the bait to stay up in the breeze where it carries out further.....that's the idea anyway. ;\)

LT,

I guess I have a lot to learn about baits and lures.

I read pretty much everything in this forum, before it ever makes it to the archives, and that's the first time I ever saw a "wire spoon" mentioned.

Now that you explain it, I feel stupid for asking.

Thanks LT. and Krusty never feel stupid for asking a ? how would any of us learn if no ? were asked?
I read about the spoon thing in wct and it streaches the bait.
putting bait on the underside of the treadle was tip given me by Don Leofler ( hope it's spelled right).

I have seen trappers dig a hole , place the bait in it and THEN set the cage trap on top of it.....so there is actually no bait inside of the cage trap...must work , although not the way I do it.
