Is there a market for either of these roots?
If so, when are they dug and what is the price range.
Does anyone print a flier or something that list roots that are in demand and where a digger can sale?

last year skunk cabbage was the root to dig in my opinion.thing is the market took a poop.have never done mayapple but know there is a market for it.

My buyer is paying 1.75 to 2.00 a pound for mayapple, if you can find it out in the open by itself you can make a little hard earned cash.

I am paying at least 2.00 per lb. on Mayapple and if you have a fairly large amt. would be willing to pay another 25 to 50 cents a lb. 50 lb. would get you 2.25 and 100 lbs would get you 2.50 per lb.
Thge dang skunk cabbage market is to cheap at this time. Sometimes when a dealer dumps a large amt. of roots or herbs on the market, it plugs it up for a while. Some items don't take much to fill the market.

I'm have'n a hard time to find a good dealer in this area..Every dealer I talk to just wants Seng or goldenseal.

What do they use mayapple for?Whats the best way to prepare it for market?I never pick it either....

Acres of our property are cover with both of these. I suppose shipping expenses would prohibit saling that way. Do any of you have a guess as to the amount of time it would take to dig mayapple root in good areas?

it's been also used for emetic purposes..as well as a worm repellent, used also for constipation,syphilis, veneral warts, and jaundice.


DO NOT USE THIS ROOT AND TRY TO TREAT YOURSELF FOR AILMENTS......IT IS QUITE POISOINOUS!!!!!

How do you prep those roots...Only things I ever dug was seng,blood root and very little goldenseal.Then again It's hard to find a buyer for the other roots here.........

You prep mayapple the same as any other root and dry the same way.

went down in the woods today and all i found was some dead leaves

i feel thats the best time to dig it if the stalks are still standing.when a plant dies the sap from the plant goes into the plant for its winter nourishment replacing alot of the water hence causing the root to dry a little heavier. just my opinion.

Typ mayapple into to a search engine such as Bing or Google and look around for a picture. Now is the time to dig mayapple because it will be dieing off sometime in the next few weeks, depends on where you live at.

Chicken look under foxkidds' post showing cranesbill on the 2nd page I posted some good mayapple pics. The root itself is whitish/clear very shallow a little smaller in diameter than a pencil and are often over 8" long
