Here's the chain setups for you Bottomline.

These are a couple popular chain setups w/shocksprings I've done up for a few trappers.

The top chain setup is made with #3MB heavy duty chain,30d nail swivels and an MB crunch proof end chain swivel. The shockspring is a JC Conner T-Bar,instead of the stock washers that come with the T-Bars,I use a,I believe a 5/8" lock washer. What the larger washer does is give more freedom for the heavy nail swivel to move around, with no binding.

The setup below that is the same, except for it's #3 twist link chain, and the T-Bar is on the end instead of the mid chain or 3/4 chain.A chain setup like this is virtually coyote proof.Lengths can vary, these ones where made for 24" total length.J hooks are welded shut.

Here's a close up of the washer and swivel connection, this one is a 40d nail swivel.

These are good setups for coyotes, but still can't prevent this, lol.

Hey Blak, what's the advantage of that type swivel vs. an MB crunch proof? The crunch proofs have an extra swivel point. I was just wondering since I've seen that style prefered by coyote trappers.

ADC,they don't seem to pick up the grass and debri like the universal type swivels, they stay clean.I do use MB crunch proofs at the end of the chain connected to the cable stake, there welded shut too.

The only place I found twist link in bulk is JC conner, and my local farm supply store. The farm supply is zinc coated, but an overnite soak in vinegar takes it off.

Andy,JC Conner is the only one that i have ever seen have it. What do yall think the advantages are of it over regular straight link chain?

Those are the old Sterling type swivels and work great for the reason's blak says.

I was all twist link chain when i first started getting into land trapping, in time started using the straight link as it was cheaper. I really don't see any advantage of twist link over straight link and in fact twist sometimes is harder to get j hooks , etc. through when rigging up traps.

Good post blak, we need to archive this one.

ThanksJ. I noticed the problem with J hooks and the twist link too, there sometimes a little difficult to hook up same goes with the quick links.
