I agree with LT and the others, trailing scent for me is a must!! Trout oil, fish oil, and used peanut oil work for me.

This year I used fish food pellets and a squirt of trout oil in my dp's and caught about 75% of the cooons by both feet.

Im a serious longliner and target mainly coon this is the first time ive seen this post and it took about 2 hours to go through and i learned alot of new things to try out on my arsenal next year thanks alot everyone who posted. And like said before dont limit your self to one style trapor set there is a time and place for many differnt traps sets i run dp legholds connibears and cages. use alot of conni bucket sets or blind connibear sets i take quite afew of my coon in connibears. Gang setasmuch as possible and get some dps you shouldnt be dissapointed.

Great thread read all 30 pages great info!Didnt see one of my favorite oold school tricks, cover your trap pan with slightly crinkled piece of foil and set in shallow water,I usually use this when moon is bright where creek crosses a pipeline, works best in rippled water. Also catch coon and cat on a walk thru with only fox pee sprayed on guide stick or bushes next to trap

All of these were caught in dirtholes in bank of creek with duke 1 1/2 about 6 inches in front of it and with a pvc pipe about the same setup as dirthole. I also tried some dp's but never had them out long enough but they are also good traps.

Set a secondary trap in the same general area so that if it digs the trap up its in danger of steppin in the other trap.

Anybody know why Ohio's season ends for coon so soon. Right now the weather is just starting to break and the coons start running again? Other states its still open, just curious. Also, are rubs that bad, I mean they're on the back of the neck but not down that far and they still have the main backside fur I just don't understand why they dock so much for that? Is it just a reason to dock but not a good one?

Bass10, they loose their fur. It doesn't depend on the temperatures.

You need a DP style trap or a conibear in a bucket set or box cubby.
