Wondering what the dimensions of wild pig/hog cage traps generally run?

I'm thinking something about 48 to 54 inches long/deep , about 36 to 40 inches tall and about 24 to 30 inches wide

Am I anywhere close?

Educate me! \:\)

4x4x8. We are gonna try the pre-fab stock panels with PLENTY of bracing. Seems we have had better luck as our traps get bigger. Good luck

I built this trap 4 years ago....It's the best design i have come up with. Built for the live market.

12 X 5.....4X4 Panel 60 " with a leap bar around the top.
No bottom or top.....Bolts together.

Drop door...Root trigger at back of trap.
Slide door at back for loading.

Mine are 5x7 with drop door, there made from bull pen wire. It's 5' high with no bottom,no top.I use metal post to keep them from turning them over or lifting them up and going under.I've been using these for about 10 years and caught around 700 hogs in them. This traps are collissable and portable.Takes about 15 mins. to put up and take down.Hope this helps.

Frank,

The bars hang over the trap at an angle..
When to attempting to leap/climb...They push away from the panel and fall back down. Or they get their feet or head between the overhang and trap and fall back in.

Piled up hogs have the same problem getting out... the overhang
pushes them back in.

Guys I just haven't had that problem. Most of the hogs I catch are sows and shouts, most boars are in the 150# range but I have caught a few in 200-300#s range. Why do think that their going over your traps and why am I not having the same problem.

I have a few traps with jump bars and was thinking that the bar is not wide enough. I am having 60# shouts jumping smooth out of the traps. I had one the other day flattfoot over a 5 ft. tall fence made out of coragated tin....

Gents just thought you might be interested in this site! Queensland has the largest population of feral pigs in Australia. Silo type traps with lifting bar trigger on gate works great! Try it I think you'l be impressed!

Ed

Bill,I'm making mine out of bullpen panels,I also put dog wire on the inside wired to panels to keep pigs from getting out. It's 4 ft. high this may be keeping them from going over plus they can see through the wire and keep trying to run through it instead of over it.Do you think this could be the case.

Most folks around here make a pen, Big as a room, that way you can catch several at one time. They make em from cattle panel and bait with soured corn.
