ALF arsonists compared to Tea Partiers‏
22/08/2010

Sent: August 22, 2010 10:43:10 PM

(NOTE: This editorial proved to be highly provocative. Follow the link below for a sampling of reader responses. See also "Incendiaries used against former mink farm," Fur Commission USA press release, July 28, 2010, http://www.furcommission.com/news/newsF12c.htm)

EDITORIAL: The Daily Astorian (Oregon)
Aug. 2, 2010

Arson, anyone? Animal Liberation Front and extreme Tea Partiers have
similar delusions

This is one very sick comparative::

http://www.dailyastorian.info/main.asp?SectionID=23&SubSectionID=392&ArticleID=72314

The Animal Liberation Front and kookier elements of the Tea Party
movement have much in common. In the first place, neither allows the
facts to get in the way of their bizarre alternative realities.

At least the Tea Party has not stooped to fire bombing barns and
forklifts. Its incendiary devices are of a rhetorical nature, often
consisting of thinly veiled, racially motivated attacks on immigrants
and President Obama.

Apparently graduating from the same fact-checking school attended by
Tea Partiers who continue claiming Obama isn't a U.S. citizen, Animal
Liberation last week torched a barn and equipment in Svensen months
after mink-raising operations ceased there. Activists previously
twice released mink at the farm. Mink-rearing operations ended in
December after the Ylipelto family concluded that it wasn't worth the
hassle and worry to continue producing the animals.

You can waste a lot of time psychoanalyzing the individuals who
gravitate to fringe groups. They are a stew of persecution complexes
and obsessions, oversalted with self-importance and addiction to the
excitement and attention that come with extremism.

From the standpoint of preserving a basically healthy society, our
best response is to maintain a steadfast grasp on reality. To label
episodes like the Svensen arson "domestic terrorism" is to grant the
perpetrators far more importance and credibility than they deserve.

Reality is that raising mink for their pelts is no more criminal than
raising cows for cheeseburgers. If someone sincerely believes in mink
rights, committing arson against someone who has already left the
business is 100 percent counterproductive. This was stupid anarchy
committed by narcissistic dolts.

It is also reality that many perfectly rational people have
misgivings about raising furry little predators for no reason other
than eventually skinning them for conspicuous consumption. At the
same time, when you live in a place with severe winter _- such as
Russia or the northern latitudes or East Coast cities - you
understand the functionality of fur in a coat or hat.

America provides many mechanisms for political and social change. The
Tea Party fears progress on goals like universal health care, while
Animal Liberation demands immediate parity between animal and human
rights.

Meanwhile, all we in the middle should hold them accountable and make
our own decisions.

How the author arrived as such a comparative is beyond me??. The Tea Party would support free enterprise such as mink sales whether wild or domesticated. They do not support unrestricted growth of an ever burgeoning government bureaucracy. They do not offer criminal reprisals against the folks they disagree with & in a greater sense represent more political percentages than the present Czar socialists do in the US of A. The author is ignorant of just how many more Tea Party type folks are wanting to move away from big government, higher taxes and the government dictates that demand folks live under big brother restraints..

Key quotes from recent AR conventions (CO Farm Bureau)‏

Colorado Farm Bureau
Activists Share Anti-Agriculture Agenda at Conferences
by Shawn Martini

http://cofarmbureaublog.wordpress.com/20...at-conferences/

Animal agriculture was under attack at the Animal Rights 2010
Conference and the Humane Society of the United States-hosted Taking
Action for Animals, two of the nation’s largest animal rights events.
Both meetings were held in Washington, D.C. during July 2010.

AR 2010 and TAFA brought together more than 1,000 activists to discuss
the political strategy of the animal rights movement. Speakers at both
conferences provided participants with tactics to target the animal
agriculture industry through demonstrations, litigation, and ballot
initiative campaigns. Animal activist leaders taught attendees how to
utilize social media tools to fundraise and share videos from
undercover operations.

Key Quotes from AR 2010 and TAFA Speakers:

“These people are rednecks and we are superior.”
- Bryan Monell, an activist who has frequently obtained illicit
employment at farms and research facilities in order to obtain
undercover video footage
AR 2010

“We should distinguish our message from less meat, because what we
want is no meat.”
- Carrie Packwood Freeman, Activist and Professor at Georgia State University
AR 2010

“Owning animals is the equivalent of slavery.”
- Hope Bohanec, In Defense of Animals
AR 2010

“I have no problem with breaking and entering, destroying labs,
burning buildings, and busting open cages.”
- Camille Hankins, Win Animals Rights and spokesperson for Animal
Liberation Front
AR 2010

“Any state with an initiative process is on our radar.”
- Jennifer Hillman, Humane Society of the United States
TAFA

How many folks here believe the Tea Party movement would aspire to act as these lobbyists do & yet the ARA crowd have folks like Obama's hand-picked Czar Cal Sustien believing as they do & have lobbied quite successfully to bury animal use enterprises??

The author of that article needs to do a little research before he makes absurd accusations. When I read an article and see something distorted I am suspect of everything else in the article, and while this person portrays the animal rights kooks correctly, he knows nothing about The Tea party and what motivates that movement.

Typical to villify anybody that doesn't agree with this administration as racist, it's a convenient way to avoid having to examine the real grievances that Tea Party members really have.

It's no secret that the Daily Astorian (Oregon)is left-wing.
What amazes me is that they got this editorial half right.

the left wingnuts alway blame the center to right way of thinking and opinion, but cant except any blame for there own actions, This is how they function and teach in our public schools from the state legeslater to the top down in congress and to have them say they know whats best.
I may not always agree with the tea party and the far right, but have never herd one of them come out and say we are smarter the you and we know best.
Its time for america to wake up out of this false fantisy of the left anf vote this country back on track

That racist comparative galled me the most to Hawkeye. In fact it is becoming a standard attack against everyone who is a conservative by folks that realise the big government approach of dictating how folks should be happy with the Nanny State, is creating a backlash such as offered by the Tea Party..
