Still whackin' and stackin'. Our fox are still looking good for the most part, only one rubbed out of the last 14. 2 crosses from the last couple of days of calling.

Funny. A buddy of mine in SE would keep shooting them and feed them to his little kids. I guess after eating those, eating veggies was no big deal for them.... smile

O yeah! Definitely the breeding season. The dog in the bottom picture revealed himself by territorial barking and I suckered him in to about 40 yds with some fox pro mojo. When I shot he dropped and slid about 25 yds into a shallow ravine and peed a trail the whole way. Stunk up the whole valley. I skinned him right there and gave him a thorough snow bath. My hands still smell 'foxy' lol!

I like to shoot them anytime possible. they don't count against your limit of "regular" ducks, and you save a whole lot of salmon by shooting them...

Our season for lynx, fox, and marten closed the end of last month. Wolf and Wolverine is open yet. We caught a lynx in a wolverine set. Still had real nice hair on its back and belly. Have to turn it in to the state as a incidental. Wish it was open a couple more weeks. I noticed that in the years prior marten and lynx had pretty nice fur still when we caught them in wolverine sets. Be fun to do some calling on these nice sunny days. Instead of when its blasted cold out there.

Nice shots. I was watching one the same coloration yesterday that would stop about every 30 yards and bark and pee. There is no doubt what is happening when you are down wind of them.

I haven't found any paired up yet but it won't be long. Usually by this time of year I'm done because a lot of them start looking pretty rough. I probably wrap it up next week regardless, they are getting pretty sparse. Sure have a lot of fat on them. Must have been making a good living on winter kill!

Lots of dead deer to munch on. I have been seeing less and less deer on the beaches as the weeks go by.

The dieing seems to have slowed down here a little. I saw a fresh dead one yesterday but generally the survivors seem to be doing ok. Still a bunch of deer around so if we don't get another bad snow storm we should be in pretty good shape. This is our third snowiest year on record and what has made it worse is that it hasn't melted between snows as usual. On a happy note I have been finding more bunnies than what it was looking like a month or so ago. It's kind of weird though. Some places where there are typically tons of them have very few, while other areas a few miles away are still holding lots. Maybe this isn't our big crash year after all.

Hank, the 17 is a great cat round! it did well on mine along with a yote. Stay away from skulls and shoulderblades!

I have the savage bvss...I did freeze up a few times now. Cleaned the bolt out good hopefully remedied that. The things a tack driver! i'm using the 17gr vmax..have been told to stay away from the 20's.

Also have a 6ppc I havent put to good use yet, and unfortunatly with the sled dead I probably wont get the chance this year.

I noticed the same thing in the interior that last day I was out calling..lots of marking lots of movement. Was out looking for cats and was covered up in dog sign. I did also notice the hares have almost all but vanished in the area I've been trapping and in my calling spots. Gonna have to put miles on next year if I am correct.

you can keep those clams yuck LOL! Looks like fun though!

When I was calling fox I also used the 17vmax with good results. However I have had problems with them on otter, so I switched to the 20gr hp and they work a lot better on the tough otters we have around here. My ruger is going to get some work done to it this summer. The saltwater has not been kind to my poor blued baby. It is still accurate as all get out though.

I went back to a .22 mag from my .17 for a couple of reasons. I had two foxes get away that I drilled with the .17 and I have never lost one that I hit solid with a .22 mag. Also, I missed several on the first shot as they were running with my bolt action .17 and could have probably taken them out with a semi auto. I bought a new .22 mag semi auto this year because I really hated the trigger on my old one. The trigger on my new Remington is breaking at about 2 lb. which is like heaven for me and H E double hockey sticks for the foxes. But I still love my .17 and it will be my beat around the bushes bunny slayer, and I wouldn't hesitate to draw down on another fox with it. Heart/ lung only though!

Nice size clams, was this just south of Deep Creek? I saw some one was parked at the top of the hill.
