I’m planning on cleaning some traps this weekend, I know there was something posted awhile ago on putting them in vinegar, but I was wounding if I should mix it with water or not? What do you guys think??

Thanks,

depends on what you are cleaning off, old dip, or just dirt and a little rust, or solid rust.

If just dirty, I prefer to soak in water. Then hit the power washer at the car wash.

Vinegar and water works good for rust. WTA

By washing are you talking about removing the grease off new traps? or taking dirt off seasoned traps?

I'd reccomend pure white vinegar, no water. You can buy it by the gallon for less than $2 at most stores. There are other ways to remove rust too but none any safer or easier. 2-5 days will get even the rustiest traps in great shape.

Rince them real well after you take them out of the soak or the vinegar will actually promote more rust.

Make sure you don't leave them in the vinegar too long- it will eat the springs right up. After I take them out and rinse them I like to rinse them in some baking soda and water. This will neutralize the acid. Then rinse them again in plain water.

nope. Run them new traps through the dishwasher on whatever cycle and with what ever detergent you use on pots and pans. That will get off the greese and then dip them in vinegar/water* lay them out in the grass and redip and turn every hour or so, they will be ready to dye in 6-7 hours with a perfect light coat of rust.

*8oz. vinegar/gallon of water

adc is right on the vinneger, BUT, acetone does a wonderfull job for degreasing traps, dip, rinse, rust.

plus, and leftover unused acetone can be used to dispatch skunks with, so, your going to need acetone.

I once knew a fella that got vinegar in his eye. He was hurtin' real BAD. So, I kicked him in the "nuts" and he forgot all about his eye hurtin'! Then he got mad at me. But he had his eyes closed rubbing them and I told him I didn't see what happened. Something to keep in mind when hadeling vinegar. Work alone or wear a cup! LOL
