You may need to raise the height of the bodygripper an inch or two off the ground. Also, try and set where the trail is tight and they can't go around it and you can blend it in with the weeds.

I picked up my first coon of the season, well my 5 year old son would say that it is his coon because I used his trap. I have some photos of the set when I first placed it and than the remake after I took the coon out. This is my first year and this is the first catch of the season. I am starting slow with only the one trap until the pelts prime up, but I just couldn't resitst putting some steal on the ground.

Wide angle of the original set location.

Up close of the set.

Good frount foot catch.

This is the remake after.

Just so you all know in my area I can take animals on my own land before the season opens up on November 15. I wouldn't want any one thinking I jumped the gun and broke the law.

Trappers always ask me what I like in a foothold for 'coon trapping, especially on land.

I read an artical that said in it, that he would change trigger positions half way through the season. why would it matter? do the coon get used to seeing it one way and start avoiding it? just wondering thanks

look at the wrist of the foot that is caught and it is clearly broken. chain needs swivels!

dont need swivels, you get feet like that in traps with 3 swivels...its a big coon in a good trap. twisted link chain...what else?

Grovetrappers, you're eyes clearly deceive you on this one! whistle

This 'coon was released unharmed!
While it may appear the wrist is twisted, it actually was NOT injured, neither was the foot damaged in the 1/2 gapped, laminated jaws, (ie: clearly not cut or chewed) with #2 twist link chain and a double swivel attached to a Picket Pin swivel at the stake,( not pictured.) The trap is also 4 coiled. The swivel pictured is only a single and is off the trap frame. clearly something I have updated since that time,(mid 70's).
Take a closer look at the foot....not even swollen. Now take your wrist and se how far you can twist it backwards....see there! If the wrist had been broken, there would be a skin abarasion and fluid build up.
Yet, there is not one hair out of place on the 'coon's foot.
You seem to forget just how stout a 'coon that size is!

As I stated, this 'coon was released unharmed, as it was trapped a week before season.
