I want to make an Anise Oil lure to go along with using marshmellows in a Lil' Griz for my trapping locations where domestic dogs and barncats are on the property. I want the sweet bait at these locations since a Lil' Griz has been known to still catch cats.

I've tried mixing the pure Anise oil extract in water before and it doesn't stay dissolved. I thought I would try a vegetable oil base this time around. Anyone have any experience or suggestions for mixing the pure Anise oil extract into a suitable liquid to thin it out into a useable lure that can then be squirted?

Also, am I correct that cats will not be interested in the Anise as a food. I can understand it may peak their curiousity but I wouldn't put the Anise lure in the Griz with the marshmellow. Rather it would be sprayed on the surrounding ground like fish oil on the bank above a pocket set.

Why not mix it with vodka...

That way it will not thicken up like an oil base would during extreame cold weather...

If I was going to use oil... I would the lightest cooking oil I could find...

im not sure if this is what your talking about, but a good anise lure/bait ive used is taking molasses & adding anise to smell, guess thats not to thin but maybe you could add glycerin or vegetable oil to thin it.

Now Vodka is something I hadn't thought of. Just wonder if then I could be ticketed for an open intoxicant in the vehicle by an overzellous officer of the law.

What about propylene glycol?

Why not just use Sambuca?

Doesn't propylene glycol have an odor to it???

If not, give it a shot, if it is to thick, thin it with vodka...

I bet Sambuca is more expensive, than anise extract and the vodka mix...

I can see where you are going with this. I hope it wouldent be the case, but I wouldent put it passed some eather.

Why not take your vodka/anise mixture and put it in a plastic pint/quart squeeze bottle? It will make it look more like a trapline tool than an open bottle of anise flavored vodka.

Hobbie Trapper, whats Sambuca? Something non-alcoholic (no ethyl alcohol)?

I didn't think propylene glycol had any odor. I believe some people use it as an antifreeze even on canine sets.

Sambuca is an Italian anise-flavoured, usually colourless liqueur. Its most common variety is often referred to as white sambuca to differentiate it from other varieties that are deep blue in colour (black sambuca) or bright red (red sambuca).[

Sambuca contains essential oils obtained from star anise, Illicium verum, which give the liquor a strong anise flavour. The oils are added to pure alcohol, a concentrated solution of sugar, and other flavouring. It is commonly bottled at 42% alcohol by volume (84 proof).
