We'll I'm a little tight on funds this year, I'm sure I'm not alone, but i'm wondering if these things are even worth messing with or not. I've got plenty of 1.5 and could convert them over and not miss them. Let me know what you think, Thanks.

Bought a couple dozen I like them, will be buying more. Bob Jameson showed them to me probably ten or twelve years ago.

I bought new dukes to put them on, I would like to laminate them before using again. You will need to hold them down somehow, I used clothes pins and also used just a U shaped piece of wire both worked. What I do not like about the griz traps is the amount of constriction on the paw as I like to turn the little buggers loose.

I run alot if blackholes an have real good luck with them.Make sure to put a piece of rubber hose over the trigger to take the metal feel of it an they work good.

You need to hold them down so the coon do not flip them over. The dukes I bought have pretty long spring pins so I used clothespins down over the spring pins into the dirt to hold them down, you need the solid wood pins. A U shaped piece of wire worked good also. These traps laminated and center swiveled should be very good coon hardware.

You can run an 4 inch thin molly bolt through a hole in the base and anhor it. Also a thin rubber band on the loose jaw will keep the loose jaw in place if the coon should dig it up,then the trap will still catch the coon. Got this from the guy that makes them...Tom

I heard a few guys say they used a T bar stake to anchor them just slid a piece of the trap under the tbar and that worked, any of you tried that?

I have never really looked at one, how do the actually attach to the trap and how (mechanically) does it work?

They replace your pan and work like a dog proof trap, they have a tube the coon has to reach down to pull up on the trigger to set it off.

They replace the pan they use a screw thru the pan post. They are a enclosed pipe style pull trigger. They have been out for probably longer than twelvbe years as I remember Bob showing me a couple he had in 97 or 98.

TJA, Do you still have the pans to "convert" these over? As an efficient, dog proof trap alternative to the more popular dedicated brand named ones for raccoon trapping, the Black Hole has its place in the trapping world if you know how to use them for that.

If you are considering the makeover of your #1.5 coil springs to use for other targets....swayed by the grim forecasted value of raccoon pelts this fall, they make for an excellent mink and red fox trap. I had used them for 40 years in that dual prance before coyotes entered the movie - not the tool for them.

For those not familiar with this trap adaptation that TJA is referring to, the photos below illustrate this modification to a #1-1/2 coil spring trap.

I was going to try them on the duke 1.5's and see how they did, I'm going to try these in an area that has alot of pet traffic, and I've got a few dp traps, but wanted a cheaper alternitive to add a few on the line
