What is done to sterilize them to get any factory odor or food smell or what ever out of them before useing? You boil water in them first or throw them in a fire or what is done as to make sure you get foreign odor out of them?

I just buy mine new...the turkey frying pots work good for smaller jobs. 55 gallon drums work best for large batches

Dish soap & boil them with the soap. Then just rinse them out & your ready to start dyeing.

the boiling step, keep your wax out of anywhere that stinks as it will absorb the odor.

I doubt wax absorbs odor out of the air. I know thats considered heresy but its my opinion. Wax repels water. If any of you have ever hunted with hounds you've seen the relationship between moisture and odor. Dry climate, low humidity etc, dogs have a tough time running a track. I use one of those cheap blue water bath canners sold at the dollar store to wax in. Comes with a nice lid in case the wax catches on fire. I wax traps one at a time.

Just use creek water then to boil out odor from used pots for dyeing or waxing? What about oil drums? I have a couple of them I can get a hold of. How to clean all the residue from them. I think it would take more than a big dish washer or power washer to get all the odor out of them. New,it prob not be bad to get rid of odor. But used pans and barrels cut in half seems a bit tougher.
