I have heard of guys painting these white or even using glow in the dark lure paint on the inside. Does anyone else do this or is it a waste of time? I'm a believer in "simpler, the better."

Have you ever tried sticking a marshmallow on the trigger?

After loading a marshmallow on the trigger, I give it a shot of fish oil.. Adds flavor/scent & the fish oil kept it from melting into a sticky mess.. I don't know why but it just worked..

What I have seen by painting them is after the first or second catch the paint is totally rubbed off. I catch just as many without painting them. The key is setting on location and sign. Set them in the middle of their trails and you will catch coon. I have had Grizz's set off the trail by 2 feet and they will walk right past them, dipped or painted white. It doesn't matter.

I painted half my Lil Griz white and the other half brown. I put the two colors in the same location. I found it didn't make a bit of difference. In fact, the only difference I found is that the white ones show up better for theft. I believe bait and location are more important than a white color attraction.

After that I painted them all brown.

Use a fish paste, easy to get below the trigger with a little stick and they really work for it. With a fish paste a little will go a long ways, most of the time I don't even have to rebait as the coons foot keeps all the bait from coming out, I just rest and flop on the ground and keep rollin.

I was advised by a guy that uses the griz exclusively, to paint mine with "Rustolieum" at the end of the season only to help protect your trap in the off season. This coming season will be the first they will be set painted primer gray.
Have any of you all tried the "Grabbers" that are made specificly for the Lil Griz's? I used them last season and was very impressed.

I have not seen enough differance in colors mattering much.I have most of mine painted brown or black and a few white.I think if they really like the bait you put in the bottom then color does not matter.

I like and use a fish type paste and a real sweet type paste. And usually a shot of fish oil or salmon oil as a trailing scent.

One thing I have found to be out of the ordinary is that the sweet paste I use seems to work just as well in Jan. as it does in Nov.

Head down towards the bottom of the page. These thing have a great smell to them i didnt have a way to try them so i didnt buy none. The are made by Wolfer and LadySky i do believe it is from the forums.

Used them also with great success last year. They are reuseable most times. I tried all of his scents and the shellfish worked the best in my area.

I bought some of them, two different flavors, last year at Convention. Put them in my freezer and forgot they were even there. I'll have to try them this year.

Location, Location, Location, same as any other trap/set. If you're not on Location, chances of an empty trap are much better.

I painted one of my DP Traps and after one catch there was very little paint left on lt. I did paint a "Lil Griz" and someone stole it, so I'll never paint another one white.

I leave my DP Traps steel gray and spray them with WD-40 and wipe 'em down with a rag. It doesn't seem to bother the Coons. WD-40 is a fish oil based product so it just might act as an attractant too.........

Marshmellows, a couple small ones on the ground in front of the trap and a big one either stuck on the trigger or in the very bottom of the trap, works for me........

I have went one step further than paint. Take pvc pipe, cut a length the size of the grizz, split it lenghtwise and put it over the trap, tieing it with wire. The trap must work so watch where your twisted wire is. Now after making this modification, I use this trap at a shallow ripple, lots of sign, no distinct trail. I think that on a moonlite night this contraption is like a beacon and you do not have to screw with painting them. Never had one stolen, I trap on private ground.

I had some blue spray paint and traps starting to rust...did not make any difference to the coon. It is more to protect them then too attract the coon, IMHO...Tom
