MPs back ban on mink farming

A majority of MPs are in favour of phasing out mink farms in the
Netherlands, Nos tv reports on Tuesday.

The Netherlands is one of the biggest mink farming nations in the
world, with 164 farms producing five million pelts a year.

The ban, which will take 10 years to come into effect, was proposed by
Labour and the Socialist party last year.

The Liberal Democrats (D66), left-wing greens Groenlinks and animal
rights party PvdD already backed the ban. Now Geert Wilders'
anti-immigration PVV has given its support as well, meaning a majority
of MPs will vote in favour of the ban.

Last year, the agricultural institute said it would cost €500m to
compensate farmers for the loss of their businesses.

I don't wish to ban fur farming. But it might bring the price of wild fur up! If the Socialist government gets its way.

I agree that getting rid of ranh fur in the short term might boost wild fur prices, but if all animal user groups don't stand together we will all be gone. Two wrongs don't make it right even if I could benefit from not supporting the fur farmers.

Wow, as a rancher, I need the trappers votes to send a message that we agree with fur. I think this has all started with the seal bann and it aint gonna stop here. Let's send a message that we want fur and we believe in it. If it is ranch fur today, it is wild fur tomorrow. Let's get together and send a message. This continent was founded on fur, don't let these euopeans decide what we consider a way of life.

Send this poll to other folks who would support the fur industry to . We have managed to gain a lot of ground over the last couple of days as support for the fur industry stood at 20 %. European Politicians are swayed by such polls.

If the ARA closes down mink & fox ranches they are moving our industry closer to closing to. Vote to keep fur ranches adds money making capabilities to all the players in the fur industry.

Cross post to other forums you folks frequent guys. The European Union does take such polls seriously. It sends a message to the Politicians that the ARA are not the masses but are the most vocal. We have to become more vocal in opposition to these ARA driven polls. If we trappers, hunters ranchers and animal use people start to cross poll each other and vote on such issues we can bury the ARA.

Just a question, but how is this poll supposed to affect the outcome? Those members of Parliament are well aware that an on-line poll does not necessarily reflect the attitudes of their constituents. They are probably doing telephone polls.

This is a new world Buckne. I have been campaigning with a local Nova Scotian Politician for the last several weeks. If you think Email polls are unimportant you are dead wrong. I know fore a fact that they are being very effective these days. People on their doorstep refer to emails they sent and the politicians are very concerned with the emails & the polls because they reflect the hands on nature of politics today where a politician had better reply to emails and polls. Being negative and not voicing our opinion against ARA propaganda & polls hasn't been a good path for us to chose . We must accept our responsibility in protecting each and every animal use together or we will falter alone one at a time. Not taking the time to support each other will fail everyone.

looks like we are losing ground, oh no.....

That is why all trappers should send this link to all their contacts and forward it to other forums that hunters trappers & animal use people who fight ARA lunacy on a regular bases. We must become more involved in defeating such polls and in supporting other animal use peoples. If we were to join forces the politicians would know our voices far out weigh the lobbyists voices within the ARA propaganda mechanisms .

All I can bring up is poll results.

They must not have liked the way there poll was going. This is one of the advantages when you control the media.

The beauty of what you folks did in moving the poll into our favor is this. You blocked ARA proponents from presenting a poll to politicians that was weighted heavily against the fur industry before you voted. The actual poll numbers were around 68.9 % against the fur industry and you folks turned that poll around to the point that the poll showed almost 49 % in favor of the fur industry and those opposed to 42%. That is a much better result then we could have imagined if we hadn't voted.
