I like dexter, I got several, my first one looks really funny since it has been sharpened so many times, the blade is a continuous curve, and is getting pretty skinny..lol. I never mess around with the more expensive knives, I skin just as good with a 12 dollar dexter as I do with the more expensive varieties.

I bought a knife from trapper Art in WI. called trapper Pauls rough skinner and it is way better than dexter and it is not overly priced. Its handmade and beefy.

we have always used greenriver and that probably will never change they are great knives for skining beaver
