What is the best way to remove wax from traps? I boiled them this evening and still had some wax left on them. I wanted to clean them total and remove all the wax. I will then re-wax them for storage. I do not like to leave then with dirt and trash on them till next season. I have invested too much money and time in my gear to allow one season of setting to ruin them. Thanks for your help in advance.

After boiling, you pulled the traps back through the same wax that you melted off of them that floated to the surface in your container.

Antidote: Boil to remove the wax; then, leave the traps submerged in your container until everything is cold. There will be a "crust" on the surface of the liquid in your container that represents the wax from the traps that you melted from them. Pull the traps out from the bottom of that cold fluid + done!

I use lye in the water. About 1 1/2 cans to 20 or so gal. of COLD water.Once the come to a boil leave for 5-8 min. then pull out and hose off with fresh water. Works for me and I have also used sani-flush with same results.

Boil hard and use sani-flush....rinse with a hose and boil hard again in plain water.Let it boil over some so the surface wax runs out. When I say boil hard,I mean get a good "rolling" boil that nearly overflows. If done right you'll have no wax left.

You're playing with fire (pun intended) if you're putting them directly in the fire. saniflush

This is what happend I am sure. What I did to try and stop it was to add fresh water till I overflowed the pot causing the wax layer to overflow on to the ground.

I will try the sani flush. I added dish washing liquid already. Thanks for all the help.

I have thought about that. I figured it would ware the traps some tho. I think I am going to make myself a special pot just for boiling traps.

I just de waxed a dozen MB650's, I boiled them in laundry soap and water, then I skimmed the wax from the top and took them out, It seemed to work any way I took them to the car wash and finished the job. Now they are out side to rust a little before I dye and re wax
