I like to mix different lures together. I've added a few drops of Backbreaker to All Call and had good results. I'm real leery of adding much skunk essence, in fact I think sitting a bottle of skunk next to a bottle of your lure is just about enough skunk essence.

I like adding synthetic rotten egg to my gland lures, too.

So far from what Ive tested(my area) I think rat glands are getting some of the better reactions from cats and k-9's. I catch most everything with castor based stuff but I think the rat glands are outperforming it. Im curious to try otter glands in a cat and k-9 mix. Ive heard some good things about it.

Yes KY Boy, rat glands are hard to beat as a canine attractor. Tainting the rat glands doubles the attention and reaction to them. Ace

Asa do you like any glands from the mustelid family for your k-9 attractors?(LOL , not asking for any secrets or anything just generalized answers).Another small question, do you think their is a appreciable difference in asafoetida tinc liquid and asefotida powder. I have no exp with the powder, am I missing out?

Quote:
One must understand that weasel and mink musks are great dope at calling canines up to a set and most of the time one will make the catch. However, I did find that one will miss a few animals that just wouldn't stick their noses in a hole with those odors. Also, those odors made a canine work the set differently than they would with say just castor and muskrat musk. Because some animals are wary of those smells, they sidle up to the hole from the side and backside of the set so as to not be in direct line with the hole. When this happens one is more likely to not make a connection or for the approach to be different resulting in toe tip catches because they were standing on the dog for example. I find that weasel musk and mink musk formulated lures are better used at sets without a hole. I sometimes just smear mink or weasel lure into a clump of grass at a blind type set for a set wise coyote. To answer the question directly, I don't think the addition of a suspicion remover such as urine would alter these reactions. Ace

See if that saves you some re-typing Asa. lol

I personally like rat glands followed by beaver castor in my lures/baits.

I've never did anything with otter or badger musks as they weren't a practical musk for commercial lure making. Mink and weasel musk holds a lot of attraction to the cats and canines but some timid canines in my experiments seemed wary of it, especially when it was put down a hole. Tracks would show an unacceptable number of animals standing back or peeking in to the hole from the side or back. I believe these animals were wary of getting bitten on the nose should they stick it in a hole where there might be weasel or mink. Skunk musk of course is great stuff for cats and canines.
Concerning asafoedita, i've used the gum, powder and tincture from both and I could never see any difference in results. Ace
