I might not be the person to answer this anymore I just trap my land. But the way I would think would be any culvert under a public road should be fair game.

What I would do is PM 2poor or skunkwrestler these guys I know trap more on roads.

Would hate to steer you wrong.

Took me a couple weeks before I got my first one. Maybe move some boxes around and try new spots.

But don't move the ones your seeing the tracks but maybe try new bait. Keep your bait as fresh as you can.

Okay I'll do my best to give you some tips. But remember I have caught some weasels but not as many as some of these guys.

First let's talk traps and boxes. The victor rat trap I prefer the ones with the big yellow trigger and I bend the dog (rod) so it fires but the trigger is layng flatter than it is upright. Then I put these in my box as close to the front with the hole as possible. So when the weasel jumps in they actually have to land on the trap.

Now the box. I like a box that has wire mesh on the back so the scent can escape better and also hace some light in the box for when the weasel looks in. Appears more like a culvert if you would say. I put my bait back as far into the box near this wire. The hole I drill is 2" and is higher than the center of the box in the front.

Now bait. I to use fish, liver, beaver, chicken parts etc. When i buy liver I will thaw it out and drain the excess blood in a container and then I put the liver in a ziplock bag and anise. A little anise goes a long ways. Then I place in box and set my trap. If your bait starts to dry out and not look so fresh then I would take that excess blood and pour onto it to freshen up a little. They like the smell of fresh blood. Also some people use glycerine on their bait so it stays fresher looking as well.

Placement of trap. If it's a culvert I just lay to the inside or just to the outside of the culvert depending on the conditions but I like to give my box a little cover. Maybe with grass or whatever is natural to the area. Direction I set my box is the most likely avenue of approach I would put the wire end part of my box facing that direction to get their attention with the baitand scent. Then I think they come around to the front of the box out of curiousity to get to the bait. I hope this helps you but remember I am not a expert.

I am pretty sure you can set in any culvert under a public road.

Enjoy your years in school guys it only gets serious from that part on.

Okay I forgot to address your question about how often to check and human scent.

I checked mine everyday for a few reasons. One because dang I want to see a weasel but also because if my trap is sprung on a weasel or a mouse I aint going to be catching anything else unless I reset. Then there's the fact that if you leave your trap unattended for a few days and if you got a nice weasel your risking another animal to start eating off it. Meaning a mouse or even another weasel.

I always try to minimize any human scent on any trap but I don't think it effects weasels as much. If they smell that bloody meat they got one thing on their mind. I think cover is more important they might not be as reluctant to go out in the wide open where they become vulnerable to eagles and such.

Ah another smart young man that knows where he is going.

I'll tell you the same thing I told my kids. The world is big and everybody only lives once so become all you can be in the amount of time you have. Because before you know it you will be 30 and married and have 5 kids. LOL

WQell maybe not the best speech young people like to hear but I do have one thinking about becoming a doctor. So maybe it worked.

My second oldest is in college now. He's going to Marshall where you planning on going?
