yep and no good answers. I wanted to hear from someone who has exsperiance with doing it not just some one with a suggestion of what might work.

Do the skunk removal "formula" with dish soap, hyrdogen peroxide and baking soda.. you can find the quantitites online.. And then wire em in a stream if its convient or if not hang em in a tree or bury them in dirt and leaves for a good amount of time

teas-spoon of dishwashing detergent,, 1-quart of peroxide, 1/4 cup of baking soda,,
Mix together well in bucket and dip traps for a few minutes,(you can swirl them around or brush them with it,if ya want)
But the peroxide/soda chemical reaction will eliminate all odors detectable by human nose.
I always leave them in a bucket with some walnuts, cedar branches, or other odorific vegetation native to your area
until I dye/wax for next years use..

i would try submerging them in concentrated vinegar. I had a couple traps that got skunked and just let them sit outside for 3 months and now its gone. However i could do that only because the traps where not needed. The formula that's been floating around here for a long time to me does not work. Ive tried it with double the recommended measurements and it did not work.

I clean some of my dirtier traps every year with vinegar mixed with water and it will take of speed dip to.

If you need the traps in the ground ASAP maybe using vinegar for half a day or a day will help, but you have to watch the wax/dip/dye because it can come off pretty easily.

The problem I have is that the skunk juice gets on the coil springs and gets deep in there. I have a coilspring trap that was in the river for a couple of months, boiled in a seperate pot to remove all of the wax, soaked in vinegar for two days and hung outside in the weather for a couple of weeks. (Still smell the skunk with my nose, I'm sure a critter would smell it from 10 ft.)

Thats the problem, people think more is better, just stick to the 1/4-cup/1-quart/squirt of soap

removing the odor takes a chemical reaction, the formula works you may have to scrub it a little with a brush
but it will take the smell away,,
I've had skunks that sprayed till they were empty, and washed them in solution, and brought them into my attached garage
minutes later ,without any protest from the warden,,(she was standing next to most of them and didnt know they were there)

If you don't need to have the trap right away bury with dirt or better yet in black or grey mud in a creek or pond. this is the oldest way of coloring traps it best if you add oak or maple leaves even walnut hulls. Then your trap has a earth smell what can be better.

Just soak them in unleaded gas for a few days, then throw outside in a safe place to air out. I usually leave outside till I wash up and wax traps in the early fall. If you want an immediate solution during trapping season, good luck! When I have modified traps and welded on them, skunk smell just boiled out. I usually just bury them a little deeper and keep on catching.

I've had a number of skunks spray when caught experience has shown me just remake the set. Yotes are drawn to the odor. I had a skunk spray up the area a couple tears ago remade the set had a yote the next day. I've found spots in fields with skunk hair spread out all over and coyote tracks there. Buggers like to eat skunks.

either sani-flush boiling or an enzyme- bateria mixture that I use for pet urine, body fluids, or skunk, that really is a good answer
