I got some of the most exspensive mb-750;s and tried them out on a line way out of the way. First set I come to with the offset/laminated mb-750. Trap halfway down the wire and no beaver. It was set for a back foot catch. Looks like I am going to have to try to exchande them or fill the jaws in. It sucks when you buy something exspensive like that and it doesnt even work. I reset it because I figured I might as well because I didnt want to pull it. I should have left it set off but we will see if it does it again. Have any of you experienced these problems.

the mb 750 is a great trap. i don't think the offset is needed for bev's but it will only cost you and occasional toe catch.

thats how you learn. trial and error

if the MB750 was a bad trap MTP would not be making it.

Think about a beaver trap and what you're asking it to perform for you....

When I do that I have a very hard time seeing any benefit to laminations and offset jaws when I'm drowning beaver.

Really doesn't make any sense. The 750 is a great beaver trap. Why did you buy offset laminated for beaver?

Finding the trap fired and halfway down the drowner is probably trapper error more than it is the trap, I use bridger #5 which is a comparable trap with reg jaws and it still happens to me, usually means I didn't offset it enough, bed it right, didn't use enough pan tension or sometimes the beaver just doesn't hit it right, it's just part of trapping beaver with footholds. Lots of times if I find an active castor mound I'll set 2 traps on it so that if I miss one I still have a second shot, sometimes I even get doubles

I got them for christmas. I like the regular mb-750;s and I would like to try just laminations. I didnrt think they put that much offset in them. The mb-750 is my favorite beaver trap but those offsets are bad news. I tried them this yaer for canines in the 550s. It is easier on the foot, but if a lot of junk gets caught in the jaws, that offset lets them pull out.
I was just curious to see if any one actually used them. In the book beaver blitzkrieg clint, the author likes big offsets, but he also didnt care if they drowned.

In my post above I meant that I try to picture the mechanics of how that trap is going to work in my head.

But there are a lot of guys that catch way more fur than me. I'm no pro.

the laminated offset 750 is specifically named the "750 Wolf" because that is what it is designed for, thats why it comes with either a 1/4 or 3/8" offset. I use all closed jawed traps for beaver, and weld teeth on them all (fence staples work great), not sure if it is legal in your state to use toothed traps. But if it is you might try welding teeth on them if you still want to use them for beaver, should eliminate the pullout problems you could have due to the offset.

If you get a beaver foot in the 750 offet it isn't pulling out. If you have a toe or belly hair it will.

I must of had him by the toe. I went back yeaturday and had one in a standard jaw and another in that offset. It was set deep like last time. They both pulled the weight to the bank, never had that happen before. One tangled up and drowned, the other was sitting on the waters edge. They are strong animals! Teeth are not leagal in new york. In the offset you could see where the beaver was turning his foot in the ankle area in the trap. Offsets are definately not my kind of beaver trap.
