As many of you know i have been battling skunks the last couple weeks,(3 locations now),my question is,if a skunk
that you have caught sprays, and you have more under the
encloser, are they more reluctant to enter the trap? I seem
to have no promblem getting the first one, but cant get the
rest to commit. Any help? thx, Brad
(I have rebaited with a clean trap every time, still no luck)

If you have a skunk spray under an enclosed area..... you will most likely not have any "other" skunks left, as they hate the smell as much as we do. Don't assume that just because you smell skunk spray that there is a skunk there..... usually never a strong odor where they live.

The spray was on the outside of the encloser,in my cage trap...could this be same one (i think) that has been stinking up the place for weeks now? i still think theres more, every time i walk across this porch you get a good shot of lovelyness... and if the culpert is dead ... how long will the smell last?

If you can find the place where they have dug under take a handful of leaves or dry grass and fill the hole loosely this is what I call a "Tattletail" critters normally dig out by pulling any dirt grass or leaves toward them, also if he sprayed under the porch changing winds can seem to intensify the smell, also low baramecrit pressure can squeeze the juice out of the glands giving the appearance of live activity so:

If the "Tattletail" is untouched for 3 or 4 days in the fall when they are very active (putting on fat) its ether nobody home or sick or dinged by a car and crawled under porch to die.

If the "Tattletail" is pulled under the porch than its safe to assume he was under the porch when you put the "Tattletail" in the hole.

If the "Tattletail" is pulled out of the hole under the porch than its safe to assume he was out someplace and dug out the "Tattletail" to get threw the hole.

I once trapped a dead skunk for a week.......

Rons area is much differnt then mine.
Most all my skunk call are smell related and 80 percent are under a home.
Most often I remove a possum from the site
I believe the two don't get along and the skunk fires..
BUT I have removed upwards to 12 skunks from a single sight the stinks,,,,,
The other cases are Mating season and the kit/juveniles playing

I have never had an issue with a cage stinking that I have noticed....In fact I prefer a "stinking cage" at certain times of the year....
