Cody brings up a good point, conservation for the future. A good way to start is by not shooting rabbits in the spring when everyone knows that they have young, therefore insuring future generations of rabbits to be hunted. The moral of the story is just because its legal doesn't mean its a smart thing to do. Now you have created the problem of dealing with the baby rabbits, which will probably die despite you're efforts. It all boils down to......USE YOU'RE HEAD!!
no ones against me but u they think im doing a good job can u just answer my question not put me down there all still alive right now there gettin fatter to thank you everyone for making me feal good and coondawg thank you for everything
thanks everyone

I raised ranch mink, big difference. I worked on a mink ranch from when I was about 12 years old till about 23 years old, and had mink and fox myself also. Raising animals can be extremely interesting and fun, and I actually miss mink and fox ranching. I enjoyed tending the animals every day and watching them.
Don't think I am being mean, but I actually am trying to open some of you young fellas eyes a bit on this subject. Seems several of you are taking off on this baby wild animal thing. I personally think it is wasteful and wrong to hunt animals during denning time, unless you are doing ADC work.
Every kid who ever read the book "Rascal" wants a baby coon. They want to duplicate the experience in that book, or have heard people talk about what wonderful pets they are. Thereis more to it than meets the eye, and frankly what few do make it in captivity, will turn on thier human eventually. There are exceptions, but I am talking about the rule now.
Talking about rabbits, they were put on this earth to be food. That's why they are so prolific. We have seen some interesting reply on this forum about conservation, but the whole act of hunting during denning time contradicts that notion.
We do not need DNR or PETA to determine what is ethical. Just cause something is technically legal does not make it always right or ethical. If you feel badly about orphaning some baby rabbits because you were hunting during denning time, then you should learn an ethical lesson from that. You are young so you are supposed to make some mistakes. The only failure here is if you fail to learn from them.
Are you raising the rabbits because you think it's the "right" conservationist thing to do, or are you raising them because you feel obligated due to the fact that you orphaned them? I think it's the latter, and if it is you should take from this a valuable lesson about hunting this time of year. If the first choice I gave you, conservation, is your motivation then you wouldn't have been hunting this time of year to begin with.
I understand. When I was young I spent all the time I could in the field, and used every excuse I could to hit the timber. Just don't count on an open season to guide your ethics. YOU know deep down inside what is right and wrong. I am surprised your rabbits are still alive, as there is more than meets the eyes to how a mother rabbit tends her young. I have also raised tame rabbits for a number of years.
PETA has been accusing us for years of killing mother animals and orphaning thier young. Are you willing in the future to make PETA's accusations true? I'm not.
Go hunt some mushrooms or let's go fishing young fella. Lot's of reasons to be out in the field, but right now hunting animals who have young isn't one of them.

im glad you took the time to right all that, and i see now you were ranching them, yes rascal is an awesome book and it does make me want to go out and get a coon, but im not going to do that, and i know you were not trying to be mean and i wasnt trying to be mean or anything either, but i do think that it is good for wyatt to see if he can nurse them to grow to adulthood, if he left them they would die, so why not just see if he can do that, and if he dones there was no harm done

Not trying to attack ya wyatt just trying to help you understand that there is a right way and a wrong way to go about things, and this whole situation was the wrong path to take. K9 summed it up real well in his post, he gave you some very good lessons there, now its up to you if ya take'em to heart.
