400 chicks stolen from Sonoma coop

A Sonoma resident went to his hen house early Monday and discovered
that a fox of the two-legged variety had made off with 400 of his baby
chicks.

Some were just 2 days old.

The chicks were being raised by Fred Cline to be egg-layers at his
Petaluma chicken ranch and were valued at about $2,000.

The chicks were kept in a hen house with lights turned on to keep the
interior warm. The coop is 100 feet behind Cline's house and 200 feet
from the street.

His first clue that something was awry was finding the hen house dark
Monday morning.

"We usually keep the lights on," he said, going on to explain how this
deed most fowl may have happened.

"If you turn the lights off, you just put a flashlight in a cardboard
box and the chicks will go there," he said. "It is someone who knows
what they are doing."

Cline said the chicks were stolen sometime between 1:30 a.m. and daybreak.

They had hatched only two and three days before the theft and, after
they were bigger, would have been taken to Green String Farm in
Petaluma, where Cline keeps chickens for eggs.

"We were breeding for a bigger egg and harder shells, those kinds of
things," he said. "We run them free-range, cage-free."

Cline, who also owns Cline Cellars in Sonoma, said he believes the
thieves knew the chicks were there.

"It was definitely not random," he said. "You couldn't see them,
couldn't hear them, and the thieves had to come through the front
yard."

itself.

movements. Draconian prison sentences and repressive legislation will
not deter us from our goal of total earth, animal, and human

Security Alert

Trespassers broke into the Jefferson Fur Farm in Jefferson, Oregon on
Monday, April 21. On April 22, the "masked avengers of the Animal
Liberation Front" and "ALF-Cascadia" issued a press release admitting
guilt for breaking and entering into the farm.

Just over 50 farm-raised mink were stolen and abandoned. All have
been recovered and returned to their pens. Breeding records were also
destroyed and a threat issued to the farmers demanding they give up
their livelihood.

Farmers should double check their security as there are several
animal rights-related events scheduled for this week and upcoming
weeks. Contact FCUSA for a full calendar and report anything
suspicious to local law enforcement, the FBI and the FCUSA office.

True. I guess when a whole terrorist group is willing to kill you in defense of an animal, you need more than rock salt. Save the rock salt for kids stealing fruits and veggies from the garden.

In California, the Animal Liberation Front has spoken to Staples about
their deliveries to HLS in a language even a CEO can understand: They
firebombed a Staples delivery truck!
