When getting ready to set your Lil'Grizz's, like the night before. Place a piece of 3/4" PVC in it after you bait it and compress the springs. This will speed it up when setting and trying to get them all set in a day. Just push down on the dog and set the trigger and your done. Sure beats using your hands, a setter or screwdriver to set them the day your laying out your line. Also the PVC can be laid at the set for eye appeal. (And yes this idea is also on the Mark Steck DVD, Running Hard with the Grizz.)

It helps when you have a few lying or hanging around.

Another tip....Paint the inside of the Grizz white. In the night it will look like a glow coming from the trap. Coon are attracted to it.

When setting in soft soils, stab forked sticks through the stand to hold tight. The trap has to be solid or the coon will pull trap and all out of the ground or trip it. I have had to use 4 sticks before in sand creek beds.

Also when using marshmellows use only kraft brand, because the store brands don't have the powder coating that helps a lot to keep the dry. Once the marshmellow becomes wet or gooey the coon can slip it easily off the trigger. Keep the bait fresh.

When I set solid like a regular trap I attach a shock spring. I see it the same as a dirt hole set.

Take a broom and sweep all the leaves away. Big bare spot in the woods with a few shiny Griz in the middle! ;\)

Thats all you're getting for now.

That's a big coon that reaches that 108 mark on your bench, I heard you had big coons in Minn.

Any tricks or techniques to setting these traps easier? What is the best way to compress the springs. These things are strong!

Here's a tip. A 1.1 costs a lot less than a lil griz and can be set the same way with the help of some pvc (same amount as the tip) and catch as many coon!

Another tip: Use glow in the dark jig head paint and just paint the rim on the top. It will last long enough into the evening after it gets dark to get any coon's attention.

I use no 11's too, but I purchased a good no of LLgriz to try, I always have kept an open mind to new thing, The man that won the coonskinning contest at the Missouri convention caught 1017 coons the preceding season, in Griz's no wonder he won the contest.

I wish grizzes had a screw cap on the bottom with an 8 inch spike sticking out the middle of the cap. Then you could bait under the trigger easier and screw the cap back on. easier to clean them out also! and the straight spike would be easier to stabalize the trap.

I've learned this from a friend, drill another hole in the bottom, around 3/32" or 1/8", next to the "v" stabilizer. Do this so more water will be allowed to run out faster, your paste baits will clog up the one hole, but you still have the other hole to drain the water out of it.

In stead of marshmellows I use a tube lure that you use for fishing on the trigger.I cut both ends off and slide the tube on.They are really soft and feel like something to eat just ask the fish that are caught on them. I put some type of sweet lure down in the Gizz and use a fish oil trailing scent.

I attach some of my grizz's to chunks of 4X4 by stapling the V to the side of the block(sit trap on edge of 4X4 and staple) or by sandwiching the V between two chunks of 2X4(on edge) with screws. These traps are for use on frozen ground or in buildings with concrete floor.

I did not see the video but years ago when the the grizz's first came out i was told by someone at the Grizz booth at a convention to glue a 3/8ths rubber gas hose about 1" long on the trigger to grab onto easier, it has worked well for me. Goodluck
