I wrap mine tightly around the swivel farthest from the trap and squeeze tight with a pliers. I lose less this way then wiring them on.

Lay your tags out on a piece of cardboard, Spray them with a coat of RUSTOLEUM Flat Black paint, turn 'em over after they've dried and paint the other side too.
I use a piece of #17 black wire, form a loop and run the wire through the hole in the tag and through one of the chain links. Twist the wire together while holding the open-end of the loop with a needlenose pliers. Clip off any excess and then WRAP the tag around the chain link ((name and address facing out) and squeeze it down tight with a pliers.
Seldom do I have any problem with critters chewing them off...

never saw the need for the use of wire if wrapped/rolled and crimped properly
name address to the inside and crimped tightly ... if someone feels they need to know who it belongs to they gotta work for it and it's no guessing whether or not it's been tampered with
