Another big thing to remember about glycerine is too much can kill the odor of the bait!
I found this when I used to make my k9 bait, just enough and the bait smell was great to much and you could barely smell the bait.
Probably due to what PS said above about it covering the surface area of the bait and not lett air inor out.
The glycerine is an antifreeze agent not so much a preservative as PS also pointed out
just my 2 cents.

as for SB to add to baits I use about a cup mixed in warm water to a gallon of red meat (the water helps it coat the bait better)
