I would think you could rub them down with saw dust or chopped corn cobs then vaccuum them afterwards.

Keep you a rag handy and keep the grease off of your beam. This will help greatly. Otherwise, sawdust will help take the grease out. But then the sawdust can be a pain in the rear getting out of the fur also.

Don, what if he sprayed the fur with a degreaser, like a strong dish soap, and rubbed the fur with a rag somehow. Would that work or cause problems?

Might spray it with wd-40 and comb. wd evaporates after a day or so.

Here is a trick I do - I have not ever seen it or read about doing it.

After fleshing anything I mean anything I take a handfull or two of fine sawdust and scrub my fleshing beam clean of fat, grease or any bits of flesh.

It only takes a few seconds and keep all my furs from getting greasy.

Mike

i've wiped down dry coons/beavers with wd-40

borax/sawdust/windex/409 and combing ... it aint gonna be instant but it'll get ya where ya wanna go

balled up newspaper wipes a beam down nice ... a rag hung over it and pulled tight and pushed towards end of beam is another way ... it's worth any time/effort to eliminate greasey fat getting into fur

Mike...I agree 100%. I do this also. It keeps the beam from building up and keeps the fur clean. On really greasy pelt...or a warm day I'll even break in fleshing to wipe it down with sawdust.

If you have a drum it does help to drum the pelts in sawdust or drumming compound when they are green before fleshing.
