every time i would put fox urine in a dirthole i would catch a rabbit.so i started just using lure in the hole with urine on the side or the backing and the foxes were easy to catch.caught 6 reds and a big grey in 2 sets 60 yards apart over 2 weeks.3 doubles and 1 single.i use a piece of rebar wiggled around as i hammer it at about a 70 degree angle so i have a hole about 1-1/2 " across at the top and 12" deep.bed the trap with the center of the pan about 6" from the hole.works every time.good luck.

foxman, as I mentioned earlier in the post, what you're doing by putting urine on the side or the backing mimics what we know about fox behavior in the wild. Captive fox pee in their food, wild fox do not most often and for that reason I also mimic nature when I set not only for fox but for coyotes.

mark, what causes a captive fox to pee on its food and a wild fox not?? we dont' have any other fox. i could see it easily if there were more than one in an area or pen...

i caught a handful of fox last (17) year but should have had more.....just trying to get a little more understanding about these critters. lol

Looks like a Marbel. We use to have quite a few pet fox on the ranch. They sure are neat when there pets. Some are pretty squirrely.

yep blak...

he is one funny critter. not as cool/neat as our lynx but close.

he doesn't listen/mind at all! the lynx would at least mind ya to a point. alot more than a reg cat.

jlord, I'm not sure we know for sure why penned fox are apt to pee on food and not so in nature. Perhaps the stressers of captivity or perhaps the close proximity to all around them alter their natural instincts... either way when I'm in the field I mimic wild reds and spot urine close but not on the food cache.
