Call me crazy, but I have always liked catching skunks. I would like to target them at some point and was wondering what information is available regarding skunk trapping methods. Are there any books devoted to this topic?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

There is an excellent ADC book, Innovative Skunk Control by Rob Erickson, that is very good. Also, talk with the people on the ADC forum. They are a wealth of free information.

Patience is the word with skunks!

Good luck!

I got probly close to twenty this year. I guess my advice is set for something else, like coyotes or coons. They tend to find all my sets. I even got a triple, two in 220's and one in a coil, all within 50ft. It does seem like if you get one and it sprays it tends to get more to come. Other than that use something that has some smell to it, or sets trails with coni's as that is the best way to keep the smell down, they also fall for the coon bucket. Oh if you want i'll send you all of mine, as i tend to leave them alone or use them for bait.

I catch skunks when I make sets in hedge rows. Any fox lure, fish and marshmallows make great bait. At $8.00 + a hide plus $10.00 for essence they are welcome on my line!

Do skunks preffer fresh or tainted baits? Does sweet work?
Where are there den areas, typically?

Appreciate the help guys...can always use more.

Skunks seem to like to den in groups at times...around here I look for a bank with alot of brush & a 'ton' of what look like old groundhog holes...once I found one & set 11 traps & had 9 skunks the next morning.....

Any yhing you can throw out there will most likely catch a skunk. Bucket sets with 160s or 220s will work good also brush or wooden cubbies with footholds or bodygrips should work like a charm.

Get out and start driving the roads look for active dens . You should be able to see mud and tracks In the snow at the den entrances, that will tell you If the den Is active and what's living In It
Right now skunks are fully prime and their glands are full It's the time to trap them. Place a 160 In the den hole. Or you can place several 160 boxes around the den and make multipule catches. Cat food or any strong smelling bait will work, they are hungry now.

Skunks at this time of the year don't travel far from the den so they should be back to the den at night. I know guys that have caught as many as 10 skunks out of one den.

Skunk season never closes.

I just finished a small skunk job for a local farmer. I used baited cubbies and buckets with 220's. I baited half with cat food and half with deer meat. I also used some fox lure on all of them. I caught 6 total and all were after the deer meat. For bait, I would say red meat of some kind will outperform the kitty chow. And yes, the stinkier the lure the better IMO.
