Any ADC operators here that use Williams live catch traps. I am planning on wholesaling these traps and would like to put together some testominals for prospective buyers to look at. Pictures would work also. Send to melcher@midmaine.com Thanks, Bushwacker

I switched over do them last year and am 100% satisfied with the quality and the price. I got tired of coon and woodchucks destroying my Safeguards, that cost twice as much. They are extremely durable, and Mr. Williams is a pleasure to deal with. I am going to order another 32 of the 8X8's for this skunk season. Albert

I have every size manufactured and they are the only single-door trap I use. They are not galvanized so they can be rusted and then dyed, minimizing loss due to theft and they blend better with the set/location that way.

Here you go guys, nobody's ignoring you, I was too lazy to dig out a WCT and get the address. Mr. Williams has no website. His phone number is 1-260-672-3721 and he lives in Roanoke, IN.
He makes a durable, good quality cage at an affordable price. I don't have any problem with buying expensive equipment, if it makes me money,or makes my job more effecient. I have been using his cages for 2 years now and am very happy with them. I have some Safeguards I still use, but I get tired of tinkering with them to make them function properly. When I grab a Williams cage out of the truck, there is no doubt it will catch animals just as it is. And at 20 dollars a piece for the 8 X 8 size, I don't get too bent out of shape if I lose a couple a year to theft and vandalism.

Thanks Albert! I know we were not being ignored, just giving everyone a hard time...

Boykin, I'm in Cincinnati, and no, HE is a male, or used to be anyway... He came to me as a 5 year old... Great on pheasants but he is sheepish. I hunted him a while but I think he is close to being done.

Dang...too far to travel anyway. The dog might not be as sheepish if he still had his balls \:\) My dogs great with the pheasants but he is a little testy with other hunters in our groups dogs. He battles it out a bit in the begining to let em know who the alpha is and then its nothing but business from there. I think he has the little man syndrome...gotta let the big boys know hes tougher than them. \:D

I have a Jack Russell Terrier that hunts and has little man syndrome beyond anything I have ever seen. He HAS to be in charge or die trying. Keeping him alive is dificult sometimes. Heck, not killing him can be dificult at times...LOL (Joke).. But he is he.ll on birds, he has a great nose and stronger drive than any other dog I have hunted over. He just is so tempermental he may cause me to loose my fiance. She HATES him. She loves the Springer though.

I have not had an animal roll one over yet. I will at times place a stone on top to keep a cage stable, or use large spikes that I insert through the wire on the side at an angle, and through the floor into the ground. They are like a 80D common nail about a foot long. They also come in handy for stabilizing body gripping traps at woodchuck dens, where legal and non-targets are not a possibility.
The only issue I have with the Williams cages is the wire mesh used on the trigger system. It's hard to place a paste type bait on for squirrels. I take a piece of thin metal and mount it to the pan with a nut and bolt,it gives me a place to quickly put the paste and holds a few peanuts for a visual attractant. This seems to work well and is efficient, I can pre bait the cages in the morning , and it makes replacing them where I have prisoners go quicker. Albert

I second that Albert... 1000's of raccoons, opossums, cats, ground hogs, squirrels and skunks caught in them and never a trap overturned... I have even caught rats in them

Maybe that is because I secure my traps to the roof or "bed" my cage traps when on the ground. I have been known to stake them in highly suspect locations with conduit...

wow, times have changed !

Years ago when I frequented this site the same question was asked and for the most part Williams traps were shot down and ground into the dirt !

Glad to see the positive notes on what I would refer to the best trap for the money all the way around.

I had a Williams trap set out to catch a groundhog last week.
Something, Probably a raccoon, turned the trap on it's side and broke the weld on the nut hinge at got out. Has any one else seen this happen?

Any cage trap should be stablized or staked down with at T-bar. In time they will get turned over or moved around which will set them off on occasion by a coon or other animal which will result in a missed animal or a fired trap with no catch. If it hasnt happend it will. We only use spring loaded doors on our jobs now after using all the others over the years.

When gravity door traps with washer locks get turned over on their side losses are eminent. So staking is a must or stabilization of the trap. Traps are a preferential thing like lures or anything else. If they suit your needs use what you like.

Spring loaded doors prevent losses in such a case. Traps with 1/2"x1" wire mesh on the bottom and sides prevents grabbing and reduces significantly the debris pull in and lawn damage or the ability to reach and grab things in the immediate area of the set trap or from grabbing things in your truck and destroying a rain coat, gloves or any other items.

Coons reach through the 1x1" wire much too easily.Williams are well made traps but would be better with smaller wire grid and a solid pan instead of a wire pan.

For the money they are a good value and well worth the price.

However as a result of many years in the ADC field we prefer safeguard or tomahawk traps for control work. Its difficult and not fair to compare the features of a pro model trap with a basic trap design.

Pro model traps are difficult to compare that have spring lock doors, small grid wire, adjustable pan tension and slide release rear doors for animal transfers into transfer cages. Animal transfers are a daily occurance and required on most jobs at least for our method of work. They prevent removing traps from the job and carrying too many replacement traps. A couple of transfer cages economize space in your truck and handle the animal transport/containment issues.

For general trapping and some general nuisance work where there is no concern for lawn damage or the need to transfer animals Williams traps cant be beat in value. However they do need and should be staked or held in position with a weight of some sort as does any gravity only closure door trap.

Time will support the reason for trap stabilizing.Ever tried to transfer an animal from a job site with a gravity door trap into a holding transfer unit? Losses will occur at times.

Bill has a real good product for general purpose use and a very durable trap and he sells a bunch of them as well. If it wasnt for the concerns stated for the possible physical damage to job site area etc. and animal transfer efficiency for our employees the Williams would be our choice of outfitting my business with them.

Would you mind telling us what brand of trap you use then? Or is that be something you might not want to say publicly? I personally favor a solid pan and a solid door (with a catch pin) as it closes fast and keeps the animal partially hidden from the public. I also have around 60 with washer locks, which are mostly a second choice. A T-Bar is often used with that type as long as it isn't on a solid surface.
