Cat glands are valuable, whether you use them yourself or choose to sell them to someone else. If you have a buyer in mind, consult with them to see exactly what they want, and how to cut it. For our purposes, I’ll show you the very basics. Again, I don’t worry about ear butts, foot pads, kidneys, gals and so forth. I’m not saying they don’t have value, so don’t send any more hate mail; I just don’t use them.
Here is a photo of the gland at the base of the ear.
This cat is a female, so I want to save the anus and the female portion of the anatomy (how’s that for keeping this “G” rated?). Cut around the anal vent while slightly tugging on the anus and colon.
Free the colon by cutting all around the colon and pelvis area.
Once you’ve got the colon free, go over to the belly side of the carcass and make an incision in the belly, being careful to cut only deep enough to enter the body cavity, without cutting any organs or the bladder.
Gently pull the bladder out, and grasp the upper end of the bladder “plumbing,” and pull the colon out the belly incision. Everything should come out in one piece.
One other thing I do is collect the droppings that are still in the lower intestines. I save these in a gallon ziplock bag and freeze them for later use. Just squeeze the droppings into the bag and freeze.
That’s it for the glands.
I also save the meat on my cats to use for bait. If you don't make your own bait, there is a ready market for the meat.
Clean the meat off the hind legs . . . .
and take out the backstraps.
You should get about a gallon or so of meat from a healthy-sized cat.
