Judge knowingly
I am an animal
who kills the wounded,
the diseased, the sick.

The human kills our kind
and their own kind
for no reason.

I do plead guilty...
but only of taking those
that are sick and lame.

I Am The Predator.
I didn't start your wars,
I didn't kill Lincoln,
Jack, Robert or Martin.

I've been accused
of thinning the herds
of deer, moose and caribou,
of killing sheep and cattle.

I Am The Predator.
I live in the wilderness.
Yet I live in your homes
as Shepherd, Lab and Collie.
Called; "Man's Best Friend."

Samuel J. Brummett - c 1991

"I Am The Predator" is in the Library of Congress' book of poems called 'Nature's Echoes'.
