If you make your own lure, you no doubt know how to collect your own glands. If you don't make your own lure, you might consider selling your glands to a known lure manufacturer. Here's how I collect the basic glands. As an aside, I don't bother with foot glands, ear but t s, armpits and so forth. If your lure manufacturer wants those glands, he or she can tell you where they are and how to collect them.
Skin around the anal ring, and free the entire colon from the surronding bone structure. Don't dig down into the colon itself or you'll puncture the bladder.
Once you've freed the colon, pull it out about 6 to 8 inches.
Cut it off, and also cut out the female or male organs.
Here are photos of a female. Don't ask me to name all the parts.
Now make an incision in the stomach cavity, and pull out the bladder. Sometimes its full (like this one) and some times it's deflated and looks like a lima bean.
Now label a glass jar and place your glands in them. I prefer to freeze mine until I'm ready to ship them or work with them.

Possum:
Good point. Strip the fecal matter from the lower intestine/colon area. Sorry I forgot that (it was gettin' past my bedtime and I wasn't thnking too clear, I guess). But that's why I posted it -- so everyone could chime in with their ideas, tricks, tips and so forth. That's the purpose of these threads. Thanks.

Excellent post!!! Thanks for taking the time. Is using a glass jar vs. a plastic one an issue for this????

Bob: Go ahead with the book; I'd buy it!!
There are many ways to use your glands, and that's probably another thread altogether. There are definately MANY more folks on here MANY times more qualified than I am to discuss that topic. However, a couple of the common approaches would be to grind them fine, then rot all the glands down to a cream, then add enough pure gray fox urine to give it body, add in say 10-15% glycerin to keep it from freezing, and you have a basic gland lure. To this you could add weasel glands, mink glands, castor, fish oil, spearmint, etc. The possibilities are endless. Just add enough of these other "side" ingredients to slightly change the smell, not overpower the glands. They are just extra "goodies" to cause interest. It doesn't take much, and if you think you may have added too much of these other ingredients, you probably have.
Some like to keep their glands frozen, then grind them, and add the urine and glycerin to use as a fresh odor at their sets.
Still another method is to cover the ground glands with a couple inches of pure urine, and leave them in a dark place all summer. Then strain off the urine with small wire screen. Save this "Super Urine" to squirt on scent posts, or the back of a dirt hole. The remaining glands can be used in formulating other lures or baits, or just add more urine to them and start the process all over.

Not right now, but next time I skin a female, I'll supplement my post. Good point.
