Does anyone have any pictures of the exposed sets for cats. I would like to see them all whether they are with shingles or just the pan. Thanks

I showed several on the pics I posted earlier.I dont use shingles but some do. I prefer more flexible materials that do as good a job.

I think I know the answer to my question, but am unsure of why. Will this work for fox and coon? I assume not, but why not. If maybe just the pan and jaws are showing, could it work then? It just seems to me that if the trap was bedded well, and stable, that they wouldn't notice the pan.

I took the advice of these guys earlier this season and caught two cats in totally exposed sets. Thanks again fellas! I also took several skunks and a couple of coons. For me, I would rather have a mangy coyote avoid my exposed trap and leave it open for kittys only. K-9s will likely avoid the situation, so if you wish to catch them at the same set, you will probly want to cover your traps.

Thats a killer set in any cat country.Thats what I call a CCPS set.Which stands for "Cats Cant Pass this Set".I build many such similar type sets in areas that have the cover, debris and attraction for traveling/hunting cats. But also can attract birds of prey in the wrong setting if too visible.

Bob, in your pictures i noticed that you put fairly large guide sticks on the levers of the trap. This wont slow them down at all?

The guide sticks are dead pieces of wood and not very heavy. My traps are more then strong enough to clear and throw the guides upon firing the trap. Go make a few sets and fire the trap and see if there is a problem for you. If you are concerned you can push your guide sticks into the ground if not frozen at an angle along side the jaw lever area and eliminate the other guiding system.Or push some thin shale or rocks on edge in the same fashion to guide the foot.

I use what is handy if dry enough, if not I always carry hulls and dry sifted peat in a cat litter container with me on walk in set ups and use as needed.I lightly salt the bar ground first to eliminate the frost bite then dust the bed area with my bedding material.Local materials work well if not real wet. The dry hulls and peat doesnt weigh much. I tie a rope around the handle area of the cat litter container and make a sling to throw over my shoulder to carry.

SKC, I'm heading out now to make a few more sets, I'll see what I can snap a few pics of.
I'm guessing school was cancelled today?

Didn't get very much time, so I only got one set out. But here's some other ones that I have put on here before as well.
Walk thru (Some drops of Lenon's Bobcat Nature's Call on the sticks by the levers)

This set was put in a low spot I guess, so when everything melted it was all underwater. If you look towards the back you can see 2 plastic eyes, that is where the hole was.

You can see where the trap is on this one (dirt). It no longer has dirt on it and is exposed due to freeze/thaw.

And here is the one from today. A deep hole is right below where you see the tinsel hanging inside the "hut" as I call it. (Bad pics, sun was not cooperating)
