Vasoline can work with some ingredients but has a tendancy to nullify some ingredient odors. That is why it is seldom used as a lure base by anyone who has had experience formulating lures. The odor of a specific odor might just dissapear as the lure ages a short time. Same goes for mineral oil. Ace

I have never done it personally but there are guys on here that do and claim it works good for them. I guess some of them melt it in the microwave but I dont guess it matters how ya do it.

It will work if you need to make something fast for the weekend or something. But if your going to put ingredients into it why not just use the ingredients themselves? Don't waste your money putting good ingredients into a bad base.

Lanalin oil is a much better base than vasiline. Beaver tail oil is also an excellent base for some formulas. All depends on the ingredients you intend to use and the target species. Take Asas advice and use something different if you want a quality attractant.

What are you making ? Many good items can be used for a base. You could use grape jelly for something sweet. I like grape for early coon sets. You could use lanoline for a smear type lure for K9s, and it will add its own smell to the lure. 100s of items can be used for a base, and add something to the lure also. Good Luck. LM.

beaf liver makes a good food lure base. put it in a blender fresh mash it up with a fork or something or put it in a shed for a couple month to rot down.
