The "walk through" set is used for various animals and in various environments, which is part of its beauty. Its a simple set, and yet if properly made and baited, it will take pretty much every predator that happens on to it.
I'm no expert at it, but I took a few minutes this morning while I was constructing 20-25 of these sets to show how I do it. Its certainly not the only way, but it works.
Step 1
I like to find a narrowed down spot, like a trail, or a little sand wash.
Step 2
In this set, I'm using two #1.65's on drags. I like to position them so the dogs are back to back, which ensures that regardless of the animal's approach, it steps over the free jaw. A thumb size stick placed between the two traps ensures the animal adjusts its stride to step into one of the traps.
Step 3
Before I complete the set, I like to step back, bend down, and get a critter's eye level perspective on how I would approach this set. That's what I tried to portray in this photo while the traps are still uncovered. (My assistant critiques my work).
Step 4
I arrange blocking and guiding. Here, my primary target is a bobcat, so I can get pretty obvious with my blocking and guiding sticks and/or rocks. I apply two types of lure, one on each side of the traps, and snag some polyfil in the brush on each side of the trap. The finished set.
Like I said, this set is simple to make under a variety of conditions. While my sets were intended for bobcats, I caught a variety of other animals with these sets today.
Gray fox
Badger
Kit fox
Enjoy and good luck!!

Boy, Donnie. Darned if I do, and darned if I don't.
Most of the time I don't bury my traps, and I catch a ton of fox in them, and way too many coyotes. In this case, I covered them for two reasons. First, there is some vehicle traffic in this wash -- its not a road, but its big enough to drive in and like I'm sure you get out there in Arizona, here it seems that folks in 4X4's and ATV's just have to see how far they can go off the road. So I didn't want my traps exposed. That's one benefit of the polyfil for "flagging;" while critters are really interested in it, people don't pay much attention to it in a desert littered with pop cans, beer bottles, plastic bags, old mattresses and so forth. Second, this particular area has quite a few grays in it, and while they will stumble into an exposed walk through set (in fact, both grays today were caught in exposed traps), I was afraid Bottomline would see it and call "foul."

Well, there aren't any deer in this area. Where deer are present, I usually get another limb (3 feet high or so) and use as a jump stick over the set.
