City, I love making those pockets sets, you can do a bunch in a short time. Problem is most places I trap the water level goes up and down quite often. This place we deer hunt at, so I don't get into the creek area until after season.
Not sure if I am doing them the way others might, but these are my highest percentage coon sets, especially if its some what warm and snowless.

Nice Videos John. As you know I ONLY use Griz for coon now cause I want them DRY.
BUT
When I used to use pocket sets I would do mine a bit different. I want the bank VERTICAL right up to the hole, so the coon HAS to get INTO the water where the trap is to get the bait. Kick the bank with my boot to make a bigger hole. Throw some bait in the hole from my boot and smear some around the vertical wall almost like a pocket/slap and go set combo. Then I'd put my trap DIRECTLY under the hole dead center always wanting a front foot catch.
Just my way, its OBVIOUS your way works great for you. Just saying what I do is all.

Thanks Andy. I've had some problems with front foot catches, so I started doing them this way and get about 75 percent rear foot catches.
I'll try your way tomorrow, sounds like it will work on a mink well too.
I wish I had some grizz getters, those things are nice. I don't trap too many coon by creeks because of the mud. I hate washing them and then letting them hang dry, especially when its right around freezing temps.

Hey Geezer, thanks a lot for the video, really helpful for me. Tell me, do you do any canine trapping and set recording? If so can you link me the videos? I would appreciate that. thanks.

Nice vids on the sets. I switch mine up a lot depending on the land. Sand I make a bigger hole to get to good roots or something that won't cave in. Banks like you have your sets are easier. if I have a bank like your I sometimes dig the bank so it is a vertical then dig into that. It all depends on the location, but the same basic ideas.
I am curious though do you prefer a hind foot catch and why? I like to shoot for hind foot catches on some locations, again depends on where. Wondering if we have the same reasons.

I call that set a "punch in" set. My pocket set is usually partially in the water with more of a tunnel going in the bank with some water in the botom of the hole. Nice lookin set tho. If the coons are movin in the area you should have a double in the mornin. Good luck, I wish I had some open water like that I am jealous!!!!
